Early Signs
My little girl is 14 months old and I’m worried she might have autism. I understand it’s still very early for a diagnosis though. She has pretty good eye contact with me and her dad ( I can't say very good) but she avoids looking into other people’s eyes. If they’re far away, she will keep looking at them but once they get close and look at her, she becomes uncomfortable and a bit scared. When it's quite around her like in the hairchair eating or in bath reacts to her name quickly but when we're out she seems lost and is hard to get her attention.
She loves being read to but I’ve noticed she has some sort of intense interest in specific animals and aeroplanes. She points at them 50x a day, and we have to keep repeating their names until she moves on.
She’s very active and hardly sits still on the floor (like being in a rush - don't know how to describe it) Sometimes she also shuffles her bottom along the floor in a circle(she can walk so not in the crawling stage) She has recently started nursey setting sessions and the staff have said that she mostly explores until she gets frustrated and then cries on and off.
She can clap her hands, wave and point very well sometimes claps hands randomly just in a busy place. She says a few words but I feel like she has become a bit quieter recently. However, she has a very good understanding of words and can follow simple commands when she listens and isn’t running away!
Did you notice any similar behaviours at this age? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Me and my close friend our sons are months apart both boys on the spectrum her son she suspected he was autistic before 1. He’s non verbal and is in aba therapy, i don’t know much as we drifted apart for a few years and got back in touch recently that’s the most i know of him. My son we found out around 2 going on 3 we saw signs but ignored them. He is very delayed in speech and has improved so much recently this year from speech therapy. He has poor eye contact and bad behavioral issues but working on and seems to be improving.
You noticed these things once your child starts regressing a lot of stuff i had a coworker son in my class and i saw the signs immediately i didn’t say anything to her because it wasn’t my place. But she kinda had a feeling and was already planing to get him checked out for an evaluation he was 1 turning 2 and he was diagnosed as autistic. It doesn’t hurt to get them checked out sooner . Some places will do it some won’t .
