I was super nervous about it too, my pain threshold has never really been tested so I didn't know how I was going to cope with labour.
I was overdue & tried a sweep (did nothing), next day tried a pessary (did nothing), they decided they were going to break my waters but as I was so low risk other mums were taking priority, after a couple of days of being back & forth from the hospital, & inconsistent contractions (which I didn't even know I was having, was only because I was hooked up to a monitor & the midwives told me I was having them) at 10 days overdue I asked if we could try the hormone gel, for 4 days I had only been 1cm dilated & within an hour of the gel I could feel the contractions getting stronger & within 3 hours I was up to 4cms.

They took me down to the labour ward & got the one room with a birthing pool. Waiting for the pool to fill (takes 45 mins) I was using gas & air which was amazing! 10 minutes in the pool & I felt my waters break.
