SOS: Surviving Car Rides With a 7-Month-Old 😂

Parents of babies who HATE the car seat — I need your tips, tricks, and maybe some reassurance that this is just a phase 😅😭

My son is 7 months old and is usually pretty good in the car for the first 15–30 minutes. The biggest issue seems to be getting back into the car seat after we’ve been out somewhere or driving over 30 minutes. We use the UPPAbaby car seat attachment on our stroller, so we typically just move his car seat from the car onto the stroller and back again.

But once we’re done with our outing and put him back in the car… FULL. MELTDOWN. 😭 We’re talking actual tears, screaming, and sometimes nothing seems to calm him down.

Things we’ve already tried:

* Kids songs (including The Happy Song 😂)
* Dangling car seat toys
* Different toys in general
* Having someone sit in the back with him
* Sound machine
* A mirror so he can see us/we can see him
* Window shades

We’re also in Texas and it is HOT. Our A/C vents are in the center console rather than overhead, and obviously he’s rear-facing. He never seems sweaty or overheated, and we use window shades, but I do wonder if the heat/car seat itself could be contributing.

Has anyone gone through this around 7 months? Did your baby eventually grow out of it? Anything unexpected that helped?

At this point I will happily accept tips, tricks, products that worked for you, or even just someone telling me, “Yep, mine did this too and it was a phase.” 😂

Thank you from a mom who would really like to make car rides enjoyable again! ❤️

I recommend a stroller fan that will help direct the air front the vents to him. There are bath time spinner toys with suction cups on the back that my sister has that you can stick to the window that will spin like a little windmill if you roll the front window down. A crinkle book by his feet that he can kick.

Nappy changing help

So we only have this problem at night and it’s only a recent thing. So my son has been feeding a lot at night. Every 2 hours or so and completely emptying both sides before going back to sleep. This means his nappies at every wake up are extremely full. Every time I change him he pees or there is so much in the nappy it ends up all over his back and I have to change his clothes. I have tried a tissue over, I’ve tried putting the new nappy on and pulling the old one from under it (I guess like the knicker trick some of you may have done as kids) and it is still everywhere. I’m already exhausted getting up so often and having to do a full clothing change at night is a nightmare… please help!

Tips for sleep…

My 3 week old takes at least 1-2hrs to fall back asleep after her midnight feed, any tips to get her to sleep quicker? I rock her til my arms fall off, she doesn’t give a shit about white noise and startles herself awake a lot 😩 and any tips on transferring her to her cot without her waking up cos her sweaty head was sticking to my arm would be grand too! Thank you. ❤️

Sleep regression anxiety

Anyone else get anxiety towards the end of the day knowing their baby is going through a sleep regression? We are trying to sleep train him and night 1 went amazing, while night 2 was worse than the NB trenches.. I can literally feel my heart racing as the clock approaches his bedtime 😭 I don’t know if we should just accept that we are in the thick of it and try to sleep train him later or keep going?? Any advice helps PLEASE!!
(If you are anti-sleep training please scroll past this post as my husband and I have already decided we 100% are sleep training.)
