39 weeks induction

I don’t have experience in the age range however I had a high risk pregnancy due to bmi and was pressured into induction. It was such a long and awful process that next time I will decline until it is absolutely necessary. Could you try say you don’t want to book in the induction date until 40-41 weeks? And hope you go into labour naturally before hand

Im 38+1 and getting a sweep tomorrow and induced Thursday 3rd, they have told me 3 different weights for my baby and stressed n worried me so much about inductions but apparently its best for the baby to get one than rather do it naturally

Basically, if you are under 35 and go over 40 weeks, your chance of a still birth is 1:1000, and if you are over 40 and go over 40 weeks it rises to 2:1000. So the risk (chance) goes from 0.1% to 0.2%...

I want a home birth so when they suggested the same thing I said it isn't really conducive with my birth plan.. the consultant then said we can do a sweep at 39 weeks and induction at 40 - I don't want a sweep so won't do this, I haven't decided about the induction at 40 weeks as it is the main thing that I want to avoid this time based on my previous birth experience.
Ask to speak to the hospital's consultant midwife to discuss birth options.
I have done this and we have come up with a safe plan based on chances and "risks" and I feel more comfortable in my decisions too!

They should only be recommending it too you not telling you that you have to do it. At the end of the day it is your decision you are allowed to say no if you don't mind ant to be induced. My midwife mentioned induced and I said no so they booked me in to do sweeps instead. But I changed my mind and now getting induced in an hour.

I’ve just turned 40 myself at the beginning of August and now have some consultant appointments booked, basically to repeatedly offer induction. My due date is actually this Friday but my last baby was overdue and induced so I’m in September babies and August babies!

Basically if you are happy and baby is doing fine I would push back and say you don’t want induction at this time but you may review that once you hit 41 weeks. I’ve spoken with my midwife and she is fully in agreement, even the consultant I saw last week could see no medical reason other than my age.

It’s good they are giving you the information and the potential risks, but in my opinion it’s a bit overstated and labour that begins organically will usually lead to less birth interventions. 🩷
