Breastfeeding and sleeping through the night

I really want to give breastfeeding more of a go this second time round. However, I feel like I come across more stories of breastfed babies that don’t sleep through the night or that struggle to ever take a bottle. My formula fed baby slept through from about 3 months, and while I’m not expecting that luck again, I am nervous about no sleep with a toddler to look after too. Does anyone have any tips/ or positive stories about breastfed and sleeping through?

My First formula fed and slept through from about 5 months. My Second I exclusively pumped and she slept exactly the same as my first 🙂 I think it can definitely be luck of the draw!

It’s more the babies temperament tbh than how they’re fed!

4 friends all breastfeed.
2 babies sleep through or wake once on the odd occasion and 2 wake constantly (one of those is mine).

My first baby woke every 40 mins, my second baby wakes hourly part of the night and does some 2-3 hour stretches. Both EBF and both parented the exact same way. Neither would take a bottle but one of my friends baby took no issue. Another took for a bit and then refused, again so much down to temperament! x

Mine is 9mos old and was EBF until pregnancy got too hard at 6mos and we transitioned to formula full time.

She always got a 4oz bottle of formula before bed, but that was it. The rest was nursing. We averaged 3/4 hour stretches at night. Unless she was cluster feeding/growth spurts/regression.

We did bedshare with her at one point because she was latching every 30/60 minutes. But within a week of switching to formula she was sleeping through the night.

My guess is the calorie count is much lower from breast milk? But I’m not a doctor so I don’t know for sure the reasoning. But some nights were harder than others and bedsharing was the only thing that got me and her a good nights sleep 🤷‍♀️

My first did sleep through the night at 3 mths, then regressed at 4 mths then slept through the night from 5mths.
My 2nd did sleep through the night from 9mths.
They refused the bottle and hated formula. I never got the jist of pumping.
My youngest, the largest at 8lbs 8oz was hungry. I had a lost 6.5 pints of blood so didn’t produce any milk ( my body was busy healing first).
I fed him formula and pumped like crazy. He was my worse sleeper. He slept through the night less than 5 times in the first year! I believe it was ASD rather than anything to do with breastfeeding or formula.
I nursed them until 16 mths, 16mths and 17mths.

BF baby, we are currently 6 weeks, I pump and she takes a bottle and takes the boobie latches well, currently with her long sleep about 5.5 hrs. Assuming it only gets better (after all the sleep regression stages)

I think that you worry about the wrong thing:)
See how it goes! Go with the flow!

Bf does Not cause wake ups!
Bf is the easiest way to settle Baby at Night. Much easier than bottle

Babies aren’t meant to sleep through the night, waking is protective of SIDS and their tummies are so tiny they need regular feeding.
Newborns are also not going to feel safe anywhere except with you, so trying to get them to sleep away from you is rarely an easy task!
Formula is made from a lot of stuff that human babies aren’t designed to eat, so digesting it is very exhausting which is why it’s common for formula fed babies to sleep longer and deeper, and be more likely to sleep separate from their mother as they’re eventually in a food coma!
That said, the rest is up to temperament

My ebf baby took paci and bottle fine, I introduced it early coz I wanted my breaks and to see friends so I pumped a freezer stash, and he would take paci and bottle when I’m out and he’s home w hubby. He slept 4hr stints until about 18m (so woke at 1am, 5am) and from 18m slept 8hrs 8-4am, a quick BF and back to sleep till 8am. Lack of sleep would never be the reason why I wouldn’t BF though, bm contains antibodies and probiotics and immunoglobulins that just can’t be replicated in formula.

We combi fed both our kids. One slept well. One didn’t. For us the difference was temperament.

I combination feed (predominantly breastfed but topped up with formula) and my little one only started sleeping through or with just 1 or 2 wake ups from 7 months onwards. He was a terrible sleeper before that. He would smash a 9oz formula bottle before bed, and breastfeed through the night, and was still a terrible sleeper, so I don’t think it’s necessarily related.

Both of my girls started sleeping through the night around three months but it did not last long at all and they still rarely do! My oldest was able to take a bottle but my youngest didn’t like it. I think it just depends on the baby not the feeding method

My kids were just a whole mix lmao 😂

My best sleeper is my one who refused a bottle entirely. Fed her for a whole year x

I breastfeed my little boy and he currently sleeps stretches of 8 to 10 hours (from 9pm to 5 am or 7am) and then again 2 to 3 hours before he is up for the day (14 weeks).

When he was just born he used to get bottles (expressed milk) at night, which gave us sleep stretches of a few hours.
He has been exclusively breastfed since 6 weeks, and has been slowly sleeping longer and longer stretches since. I am expecting this to change soon as he will be 4 months in a couple of weeks.

Both my kids were breastfeed when with me and had bottles of breast milk at daycare. They also slept through by around 6-8 months. So, yes, it is possible but there are a lot of things that factor into babies sleep, much more than what they are fed.

And remember, you can always change your mind ❤️

My ebf 15week old, feeds 3-4 times through the night but she doesnt wake up wake up.. she basicly dream feeds, we co sleep (she will not sleep anywhere that Im not 😅😅 but I love it) she wakes, latches, feeds, sleeps and so I get about as good as sleep as I could hope for. I wouldn't change any of it, I love breastfeeding and I love her being beside me as much as she loves to be there. I get that both arent for everyone though. Got to do whats best for you and your baby 💜💜

BF and he’s nearly 2 and still waking up multiples times. I co sleep. We both get more sleep that way.

I had this fear before having my second because my first was a fantastic sleeper, started hitting 5 hour stretches at 6 weeks and then fully sleeping through the night at 8 weeks. Never hit a noticeable sleep regression. I wondered if it was because she was formula fed but now I have a 3 month old who is EBF and I mean only boob has never used a bottle and she started sleeping through the night even earlier than my first it’s wild. It’s rare she wakes at all anymore but if she does it’s around 4-5 for a feed and then she goes back to sleep until 8am

How do I teach my baby No?

So my little girl is nearly 14m, and she’s biting, pinching and pulling hair 😬 how do I teach her not to? I tell her no and try to move her attention to a toy but all she does is maniacally laugh and try to do it again. She finds me telling her no funny. I say No, we don’t bite, pinch, pull hair etc and then show her gentle hands. I just don’t know what to do 🤦‍♀️

Boy mum troubles 😅

So erm my son is 3 years old and has recently discovered his penis does things 😅 till now it has mostly been 'oh it gets bigger' or similar comments but he has just spent the last 10 minutes playing with making it move on its own 😅🤣 obviously i want him to know his body is normal and natural etc etc and to be honest I have just sat and laughed my head off because it took me by surprise. He also started a thing of wanting to cool it down and does that by straddling a pillow... like I said I know this is all normal and natural him discovering his body etc but I guess I am just unsure on how best to handle these things and want to make sure I handle it the right way because I dont actually know the best way for me to react or talk to him about this

Sleep regression

Hi has anyone got any tips of making their babies sleep past 5am? Currently breastfeeding my 14 week old, we do the whole bath, feed and bed routine.
He has his bath around 8pm, and usually fed and asleep by 8:45/9pm - in his next to me.
After this he wakes up at 1am for a feed and will go back to sleep but it takes around an hour to settle him back down again in his next to me. He then wakes up again at 4, will fall asleep on me and then wakes up again from 5am, and just refuses to go back to sleep.

My partner has left us so I’m currently doing it all on my own, any advice would be great fully appreciated, just need abit more sleep!
