I have a 6 year old boy that has autism.
He comes back everyday from school (after bus drops him off home) having tantrums and crying and throwing himself on the floor, head banging and screaming. I have tried everything and what helps is when we go out to the park or shops. Bus driver doesn’t know what’s causing it (he is fine on the bus). School gives feedback that he has fun great days.
I don’t know what to do and I can’t always take an uber to the shops (I don’t drive) or go to the park. Any help would be appreciated. He’s OT said to put a timer in the bus so he knows it’s time to go home and clearly that’s not the issue and it’s not helping. We tried using visuals before getting off the bus but didn’t work. What should I do ?? I’m very exhausted and tired from this. My anxiety is off the roof before he comes back home because I’m so scared he will have another huge tantrum/ meltdown. I developed anxiety and worry from this. Whenever he is ok and not crying; I keep thinking he will cry and have a tantrum. It’s constant worry and anxiety…. What should I do?

Is there something he can look forward to enjoying at home? A getting home routine when he steps out of the bus might help. Something to help him relax and get the stress from the school day out. I don't know what he likes maybe a special snack or game or bath/shower, or exercise of some sort.
