12 weeks scan

The 12 week scan is basically the dating scan to get an accurate estimated due date, they can't tell gender at that point. They will check heartbeat etc. It is the 20 week scan that is more in depth to check measurements, you can get gender at this scan and if you choose the screening.

12 week scan is to confirm pregnancy and to see the exact EDD. it’s too early for gender. You can get the genetics blood test at 12 weeks though!

For both of my pregnancies at 12 weeks it’s the second scan, they did the confirm pregnancy/giving a due date around 8 weeks. At the 12 week they double check on baby and they do the NIPT testing the same day. They check to make sure things are growing good and they look at the neck, if it’s a certain thickness it could point more towards a possibility of baby having downs syndrome.
