Health visitor

Not had one but remember seeing a post a couple of weeks ago that someone else had a bad experience with their health visitor

I received a call saying I’d have a visit and was booked in for about 32 weeks and then got a text to cancel

Some areas offer this visit pre birth but not all. What wasn't good about your experience? You can tell them you don't want to see that HV again or you can decline the service entirely or say you don't want the visits at home! You should still be able weighing clinics etc at family hubs so you're not missing out on it

Yes we had one with my first and we’ve got the same health visitor coming out again this time round at 37 weeks (apparently it’s not common practice for them to come out second time round, usually a phone call but ours is VERY old fashioned)
Honestly just take everything they say with a pinch of salt. I got really worked up with everything mine was saying the first time because I was on antidepressants due to severe anxiety x

I got a letter through and then two texts messages. I cancelled because I see no reason for their visit pre- baby while I have my midwife appointments.

Why wasn’t it a good experience? x

yeah my health visitor visits me every 2 weeks

I’ve got an appointment with one scheduled but it’s not at home

I never had a health visitor come out to me before the birth of my first so I’m really confused why someone is coming out this time, what kind of things was she giving advice about?

I did. I’ve had two visits so far and my bub isn’t here yet. She has been quite helpful sign posting me to things. You don’t have to have them if they make you feel uncomfortable ☺️

I had a visit today I’m 35 weeks, she was lovely took some details about both me and my partner asked what baby was going to sleep in and how I plan on feeding baby. Also told me at how many weeks baby is I will get visits lasted about 40 mins.

i would complain about her! from what I have read in your comments, she shamed you consistently, gave you awful advice, and was just outright rude and unprofessional. no soon to be mother needs that sort of energy or pressure put on them - formula feeding is 10000% okay, dummies are 10000% okay (and actually help in prevention of SIDS apparently and I was always told by my HV they were a good thing to have whilst baby slept so not why she’s so antidummy?). she doesn’t need to have screamed or shouted or do anything outrageous for you to put in a complaint, and with how she acted I definitely would. I understand having personal opinions, but when it comes to a job like that you cannot let personal opinions affect the medical and professional advice you are giving to new parents as you can do real damage! mentally and physically to both mum and baby. personally, i would definitely let your HV team know that you do not want her involved in your care again and say you wish to complain xx

I had one come out as we’ve moved house so a new council even so it’s my third. I had one come out for my first and not my second. I told her I felt like it seemed like a waste of time as it’s my third time and she said their intention is to come out regardless if it’s your first or tenth baby. She also did my sons 2 year review while she was here so that was the only useful thing except she told me he’d put on too much weight (he defo hasn’t) and wants to weigh him again after baby comes 🫠 I didn’t have a negative experience but when they do these home checks I feel like it’s a bit of a waste of time
