My son started Kindergarden a month ago. Come to find out by questioning incomplete worksheets in his folder that he does not do any classwork. So i asked to sit in and observe and the teacher was right he sat at his desk did not reach for a pencil or even look at the assignment handed out. He just sat there shaking his hands while others did their work and when the teacher went up to him to ask him to do his work he turns his head away and says no. I leave the classroom and cry my eyes out on the way home. Why was my son acting this way? At home he is very happy and sings, dances and he will do his homework. I cant wrap my head around this behavior. and the second week into school the phychologist calls me in to say he observed my son and believes he might have a developmental delay and would like to get him evaluated ..never once said my son is sitting at his dsk doing nothing and shaking his hands. So i am still currently waiting to get results of that evaluation going on over a month but finally got a date for a meeting...but last week was grandparents day and my sons dad took his grandmother and they got to go sit with my sons in. his class......guess what happened...my son did his assignments , ibteracted and talked, played with his classmates and ever danced with them. only while his dad and grandmother was there. His teacher was suprised to see him know how to write and spell his first and last name. the next day teacher tells me he isnt talking, following instructions or doing any classwork. Does anyone know why this could be happening, or is going through the same issue? when i ask my son why he wont do his classwork he responds its boring and school is weird. or he is scared of school. Everyday is so hard for me to have to think while he is there he is scared and not doing anything. its killing me. But he did tell me he is running in circles with a couple classmates at recess now so thats a plus in the socializing direction. I dont think its a learning disability because he knows how to do the work at home he just will not do it in class..its torn me apart to try to understand and i cant wait til i can get sone answers in 3 weeks but until then im drowning in sadness and unable to think clearly. oh he also has started taking tantrums bad ones when ge gets home from school and when he doesnt get his way he slaps me and pushes me away and screams he hates me.wtf !! any guidence or opinions are greatly approciated.

Unfortunately most people don’t seem to understand that learning disabilities don’t always mean actual learning delays. We have a lot of ND in my family, my dad had to pull me out of pre K bc I wouldn’t/couldn’t interact w/kids my own age yet, then I ended up having to do similar w/my oldest. My kids are both September babies, so luckily I can just skip the whole early assessment & start them in K when they’re just weeks away from 6yo, instead of being 4, nearly 5, that extra year makes a huge difference. We’re not intellectually challenged at all, we were probably more advanced than most of our peers at those ages. My oldest did GT & robotics to keep him from getting too bored at school & his teachers all allowed him to spend a recess in the library, which helped a lot. I wish schools had enough funding to do GT FT-ish, instead of only 1-2hrs a week, it’s great for us autistic kids who share very similar learning disabilities w/ those other “quirky” kids.
