Hey mamas! I’m having a really time navigating physical aggression with my son. He is 3, nonverbal (more like preverbal) but I feel like majority of his aggression stems from his frustration from not being able to communicate. However, I’m tired of being a punching bag. We’ve tried everything under the sun. He’s in ABA currently and his BCBA is telling us to ignore the behavior but I’m having a hard time with it. How do you guys go about this? I don’t want him getting older and bigger, and to continue to hit others when he’s upset or frustrated. I’m not okay with this behavior. I know it’s communication but at the end of the day it’s not safe and it’s unacceptable. I’m desperate and exhausted.

I’m honestly considering putting my son in behavioral therapy.

Because he is non verbal. Have you tried word cards with pictures with toilet, drink, play inside, play outside, cuddle, happy, sad? That you can carry around and one that he can easily access too. learning some makaton may help improve it all. It may also be worth looking into possitive restraining courses. Its used for when they have meltdowns and theyre at a point they could endanger themselves, you or others its used in SEN schools to protect other children.
Do you also have a board you cam clearly display whats going to happen that day in picture form. That can help too. Each morning you explain the plan. Let's say its a weekend and youre a bit flexible you could get them to pick something they want as they get used to it.
Redirection to deescalate may work, but it depends on the child. Sometimes you need a safe, soft area they can go that they put their frustration on instead of you.
It is hard but certainly finding a way to help them communicate WILL 100% help.

I have taught a non verbal children (the reason theyre non verbal varied) and once a way that worked for them was found they stopped being violent and became calm because it was all down to the fact they couldnt get what they needed out and that is truely frustrating

My daughters SEN taught me this:
Every time she gets aggressive I need to put the following words in my head:
' Mommy, please help me. I dont know how to behave or react in this moment'.
Secondly, I need ro sit down at her level. Gently grab both her wrists, hold it, look her in the eyes and say:
'Every time you hit me, you are CHOOSING to hurt me. I still love you though.'
and lastly, I got a punch bag and made a sensory corner.
In the corner theres a hiding space, punch bag, sensory toys and Ive put cards up that teaching different breathing techniques etc and we practice that.
She goes in there to calm down.
I go and sit on the floor nearby and eventually asks:
'Are you ok now? Would tou like a hug?'
And she always comes out for a hug.
Hope this helps.

Learning and teaching some basic sign language helped here. Being able to ask for help before there was a word for it prevented just whacking or pulling for attention. It didn't always work or resolve the frustration, but helped tremendously for them advocate for themselves. Also loved having communication cards on keychains. Offer choices for everything to help them feel in control. 3 is a hard age. Impulse control has not developed yet so modeling behaviors when they arent overwhelmed helps, sometimes it goes out the window anyway. As much as I dislike it, I allow stomping of feet, whacking a pillow or stuffed animal on a couch/bed, and if complete meltdown is reached just providing a safe space for her to calm down and comfort when she's ready. Always explaining it is not okay to hit others, which often happens when she is calm enough to hear anything said. If he is only 3 and it's not more than basic aggression when frustrated, he will likely grow out of this and just needs support to feel heard
I know routines are hard at this age but does anyone have somewhat of a structure to their day with their LO? I. E when does LO nap and for how long and when do they go to sleep.
My LO is a bad sleeper with multiple wake ups during the night. I’m really deliberating whether it’s because of the naps he’s having during the day. I usually allow him to have one long contact nap in the morning (to make sure he’s not groggy for the rest of the day) his other naps are usually short and I put him down for them. I also like to hold him for his last nap so he’s not overtired and I can put him down for bedtime easier. He falls asleep anywhere between 7-8:30pm depending on how the day has gone.
Any tips / advice would be v helpful!

My almost 4 week old doesn’t go down to sleep until 10:30-11pm, she has a few wakes which is fine, but the last block somehow kill’s me off. Her last wake is around 5:30/6am ish and it seems to take me the longest to settle her back to sleep at this hour and by the time I’ve finished my 3.5 year old is ready to talk my ear off at 7am prompt and ofc needs personal care and breakfast.
I’ve been able to rest as luckily my partner is still on leave, but I am anxiously anticipating his return to work and don’t know how I’ll do it!! 3 days of the week we will have to be out the door to the childminder, but the rest of the 4 he’s home with me😬.
How are we getting through the mornings/days with our eldest whilst sleep deprived?!
Any tips are welcome

Checking if your babies who are going through sleep regression also waking up before their usual time in the morning (apart from multiple wakings through the night). My LO used to sleep so well from 9 PM to 9 AM with one tiny feed at around 4/5 am. This bedtime works very well for our family. Now that the regression has hit us hard, she is waking up 3 or 4 times and then finally waking up fully alert and cheery around 7.30 am (1-1.5 hrs earlier than usual). Is this happening with you? Do you fully wake them up and start the day or just ride through this time till they are ready to sleep again? Sorry for the long post!

Does anyone have any suggestions for play mats? I need something spongy and soft to put my baby on so he can play on the floor. He's 4 months old but I want something he can continue to use as he grows. It would also be helpful if it was waterproof or stain resistant as he's got reflux and is sick sometimes
