Disappointed

Hi everyone, just come on for a little mental support really. I’ve had two emergency sections now because I was in labour for a day with my first and two days with my second but my body wouldn’t progress past 4cm. I had the hormone drip with both to try to help labour progress but no luck and my epidurals failed both times.

After going for my second section the doctor told me that if I were to have another baby I’d have to have a section as the rupture likeliness would increase.

This to me is very disappointing as I tried so hard both times for vaginal birth I just feel like my body wasn’t good enough and that if I did try for a third and naturally my body would fail my baby again and I’d have to have a section.

Now I know a section is in no was the easy way out I’m very grateful to have had both as they got my babies here safely but I just feel like my body wasn’t good enough to progress fully and I just don’t think it’s something I can get over it makes me sad knowing I may never get to experience doing it all myself.

It’s so common for mums to have c sections now. The key thing to remember is whether you give birth naturally or via a c section, your body hasn’t failed you as it’s nourished and grown your beautiful baby. As long as they are delivered safely, that’s all that matters and every birth is unique to the mum and baby. Try to remember the positives 🫶🏼

Also, just to add, a planned section is so different. When you’ve been labouring for a long period of time on top of the surgery there are so many different mental elements to contend with. You’ll be feeling exhausted and somewhat traumatised which is only going to enhance the feelings of disappointment, or like your body has failed in some way.
None of this is true, having a safe and healthy baby is the most important thing and being kind to yourself is also important. You’ve done something amazing .. twice!

And in response to the thoughts of feeling like you’ll never get to feel what it’s like to do it yourself … I’ve had conversations with friends who have felt that feeling and they’ve told me I’m not missing out on anything and nobody needs to feel that feeling 🫣
