C-Section Date

Hey!!

I am having an elected C-section for a few reasons but one being my anxiety.

I was initially told I would get a date around 39 weeks but I’ve just been told it could be 41 weeks instead.

It’s really shocked me as I think this runs a risk of her coming naturally as well as now adding 2 weeks to her due date (39 weeks now being 41).

Does anyone have any experience or advice on how to manage this kind of news and how their c-section date booking went?

Please note - I’m aware I could get a date and it be moved due to emergencies but I didn’t expect this huge change.

I used St Thomas’.

I had my first c-section booked for week 39 (had that booked by week 32) but went into labour week 38. I went straight to Tommies, was prepped for surgery and waited for an empty emergency spot on the day.

Second baby booked for week 38 due to baby 1s surprise plus bank holidays. They changed it to week 37 3 days before due to a pathology lab strike and i got ICP that escalated rapidly after week 35.

Both times though it changed and they were such amazing calm, happy, trauma free births. I loved my sections and my care there.

Don’t overthink it ! I had mine at 40+ 5 and it was an emergency . Just make sure your prepared for the aftercare

UK guidance with elcs is 39w to avoid spontaneous labour, however if you have a planned section and go into spontaneous labour before the date theyve given they just do it on that day. Most babies that are born by spontaneous labour are at 41w though so try not to worry x

I had a similar situation, eventually I felt like they kept putting the elective off further and further in the hope I would just go into natural labour. I got so worried I clarified with the midwife, and she said I could still ask for the c section if this happened. I know it's rubbish, and super scary I remember, so my thoughts go out to you really 🌹

I was also at St Thomas for my 2. I had my first at 39+3 and my second at 39 weeks.
With my first I found out the date a couple of weeks before, with my second we had the date a couple of months before, but on the Teams call they said that most women tend to find out from 38 weeks.

Happy to answer any questions etc.

I opted for an elective section too for the same reason as you, I was told by my consultant it would be 39 weeks but got my date for 40+1 which I was nervous about as was worried about going into labour spontaneously. I was really disappointed but I didn’t need to worry in the end. The whole section experience was calm and a lovely experience too. Good luck 🥰

Sorry I forgot to add, I was reassured I’d still be able to have the section if I did go into spontaneous labour. It still panicked me though as I wanted to avoid it! X

My first was emergency at 40 +5 and my second will be at 39 weeks on January 13. They let me book the date at my last appt.

Mine is 39 because I had HELLP so earlier is better.

Also when are you due? Could it be that your dr is out of town and you are getting bumped to when they will be back?

12 week scan - so clinical

Hello,

I’ve just had my 12 week scan. When we started baby was doing a head stand, so had to walk around for 30 minutes. When I came back, the baby was still in an unfavourable position, but could just about get measurements after doing an internal scan. I came out feeling a bit disheartened as she didn’t really say much during the scan, or after, to make me feel reassured everything was fine. I had to ask her after if everything was ok and she just said yes all fine. Am I just overthinking things or did anyone else find it just so “clinical” and one in one out kind of thing. It’s a shame because I’ve had some private scans and I was made to feel so comfortable and reassured there, but the NHS scan just made me come out with anxiety even though nothing was said to be wrong.

Induction Pain

Im currently 40+3 with no signs of baby. My midwife wants to talk induction, does anyone have any advice on pain levels and effectiveness from the different types? The balloon method sounds very uncomfortable, but seem preferential to the pessary as you can go home after insertion?

Navigating anxiety after baby measured small at 20wk scan

Hi everyone, i had my 20 week scan the other day. Everythings looking good but baby is on the smaller side particuarly head and tummy. I have been asked to go back in for a growth scan in 2 weeks time. I have been reassured by other people that some people do juat have smaller babies. My gp also advised i might need extra growth scans as some of my medications can impact growth but shouldnt be a big enough issue to come off the medications as that could have a bigger negative impact. Trying not to feel guilty as some people have smaller babies genetically anyway, i am jusr hoping to see reassuring progress at the next scan. Would appreciate tqlking to people who can relate

Delivery decisions

Hey everyone!

I’m currently weighing up a scheduled c section verses being induced (first time mum, I have gestational diabetes, baby is measuring big, high blood pressure, high bmi and various other factors for this)

I know there’s no real ‘better choice’ but I’d love to hear your stories to help me decide!

How was your experience, your recovery ect?

Thank you!

Postpartum C-Section muscle recovery?

I’ve seen a lot of postpartum binders/bands/wraps to help muscle contraction in the stomach. Has anyone used any? Would you recommend it?
