Second child pros and cons

Found out I’m unexpectedly pregnant, tried to be very carful, tracking, condoms but one split and was two days after ovulation and it stuck 🙈 but we live in a two bed flat, have a two year old and just about survive as it is, can we really have a second? Husband is solid no, no more holidays, as planes are tow of three, bigger buddy, more car seats, double nursery fees, will family who also look after him take another baby too, we starting again before school time starts when we close to family not having to have him in week while we work… ect ect just the cost is more and wouldn’t be manageable.. I’m a little more on the fence, I never had a sibling, did it happen for a reason. Do I want a second I say hell no anytime people ask but am I over compensating 🤷🏻‍♀️ anyone else couldn’t afford a second but did it anyways

Hi
Well pros are I say
• both kids can grow up together
• newborn stage you wouldn’t need that much space
• the stuff you have for your 2 year old can be hand me downs

Cons
• money, but money is always an some what a problem regardless
• sleep deprivation could be harder with both kids
• the space in the flat may be difficult when they are older.

I understand your husband with the no more holidays, due to the double buggy car seats etc and especially the double nursery fees. I think family will absolutely help you with the second baby. Kids are a blessing .

My personal experience i couldn’t really afford another child plus I got told I couldn’t have my more kids. Found out I was pregnant and it was twins I’ve already have a child and I’m in a 2 bedroom flat so I know it will be complicated. We were just able to move things about, looked up on sales on buggy’s that came as a car seat and buggy. Then the buggy changes as they get older.

Hope this helps xxxxx

Hi! So when i found out i was pregnant with my second we lost our home right after due to forclousure. Money is always going to be a problem in my opinion and like the person before me said childern are always a blessing . We ended up moving with my dad and built a tiny home with our very own hands! I never knew we were capable of that! 2 years after moving in to our home and my kids love each other so much im stressed as much as when i had just one kid . I don’t miss the vacations . I think you should let your husband know what you want? We live in a two bedroom (shed to tiny home ) and remeber your situation is never permenant .

Can’t give you any advice in relation to a second child (I’m currently pregnant with my first), however can give you my view in relations to having siblings - I couldn’t imagine my life without my sisters, its an indescribable bond and I know I’d definitely be lonely without them in my life. I am having this baby on my own and plan to have a second (again on my own) within 2 years so that they have eachother. It will be really tight financially and we will have to sacrifice some luxuries but it’ll be worth it 💜

I was never having anymore after my daughter in 2022, until I accidentally fell pregnant in 2025, I also worried about finances etc, but money comes and goes you figure it

Again said I’d have no more and about to give birth to our 3rd baby in a weeks time 🙈

You make changes to you lifestyle and some luxuries have to go unfortunately, but honestly I wouldn’t change it for the world now

Good luck mama 🩷

Pros are that you have a built in babysitter. Kids really keep each other occupied. They play and play and hours pass.

Cons they fight!

I LOVE IT, and watching them together is pretty amazing. Siblings are the best and have each other’s backs.

And with that, I just had my third child. No regrets.

And with our first baby we were in a one bedroom in the west village! Tiny! You’ll make it work.

My husband had categorically said he don’t want a second child, we hit gold with our first and he’s not open to discuss it really, not much to say “you won’t change my mind”

Again can't give you an opinion on having a second because we are just expecting our first.

But this baby came very unplanned, we live in a one bed flat and won't be able to buy a bigger place for a couple of years at least but we are just making the space work. I a kid is always a blessing in my opinion.....Two kids in a two bed flat doesn't sound too bad, the kids can share the room.

I grew up without siblings and I always wanted one, there was nothing I wanted more growing up, I remember I would dream of it and imagine what it would be like. In a heartbeat I would've traded holidays, toys etc for a sibling...Being an only child is a bit lonely growing up.

Just want you to hear a different perspective. I had to terminate a pregnancy in the past - luckily I found out very early on as I’m not sure I could have gone through with it if I was approaching a particular week.

It wasn’t the same situation and would have been my first.

But it just wouldn’t have worked for me in my situation at the time. (Feel free to message me if you want more detail or to talk to someone who made a really difficult decision).

I am not saying you should or shouldn’t do this. I just wanted to break the ice as it’s easy to say go for it, have another child you’ll cope, your child you have will love it.

But actually what do you do if you/your partner/your child doesnt cope? Or you regret it? Or your partner doesn’t stick around for it - considering his strong opinion.

It’s your body and 100 percent your choice but he may decide he has a choice to leave because it’s not what he wanted.

Both decisions are equally as hard in different ways. (1of2).

I think financial considerations are very important here. Money doesn’t come and go, see what you have today.
