Elective C-Section

I know emergency C-sections are quite common, but has anyone here chosen to have an elective, planned C-section? What was your experience? No judgements and rude comments please. This is a sensitive subject. I’m 30 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I’m considering having a planned C-section. Because I’m 41 and suffer from anxiety, I’m worried about the unpredictability of trying to give birth naturally at my age with the possibility of needing an emergency C-section in the end. I know it’s a major surgery that comes with a lot of risks, but it seems so much more controlled when planned in advance, which I find comforting.

This was a choice that I made. I get looks when I tell people I am having an elective c- section, but I just tell them it's the safest option for my baby and my situation. I am 32 and this is my first baby. Women above 30 have a harder time during birth than younger women and it is possible, but a c- section is a safe alternative, especially if you have a chronic illness. I have sciatica, so my ob worries about me going through the pain of labor to have to turn around and have an emergency c-section. She feels that would be a lot of stress on my body. Also, my baby is huge and she worries about him getting stuck. All of these are factors that effect your health. Yes, you want a healthy baby, but you also want a healthy mommy. My ob did warn me it's a major surgery and will come with extra healing time, but she believes the risks of surgery is not greater than the risk of stress an unplanned c-section would cause. And I think that's maybe a conversation you should have with your ob, is the risk worth it?

Everyone is different and only you can make the choice you believe it right for you. I’ll tell you a bit about my experience.

I went in to be induced on the Friday morning and ended in an emergency section on the Sunday night.

The induction process was very scary but every single step was explained thoroughly by the midwives.

I got a pessary on the Friday morning and I started having mild contractions throughout the day, I had a sweep and I was only 3cm, the midwives were expecting me to be a bit further on than that.

On the Saturday morning the midwives gave me the balloon catheter and my contractions ramped up and were closer together. Don’t get me wrong I was in pain but I was still able to walk, talk and eat.

On the Sunday morning at 6am the midwives broke my waters as I was around 5/6cm and I laboured on gas and air for the morning and then I got an epidural around 2pm.

Bump dropping at 34 weeks?👶🏼✨

Hi Mummas 👋🏼

Does it look like my bump is dropping already at 34 weeks?

FTM! I have a feeling she is coming early. Horrific pelvic girdle pain and constantly moving! She’s been head down since 30 weeks. Measuring on track at 53rd percentile.

Interested to know your thoughts! 🩷

C-section

I have been scheduled to have a c-section on the 2nd of November due to some complications with my twins (I'll be 37 weeks)... the boys have been both head down for a while so I prepared myself for vaginal delivery but suddenly my waters have increased and both of them flipped into transverse position. What are your recommendations for an easier recovery? I have heard the post op pillow is useful but is there anything else I should consider buying? Are the silicone type patches for c-sections worth it? I will also be staying at the hospital from Friday meaning a longer hospital stay so I can be monitored and be on strict bed rest so I only have a few days to prepare 😬

For the c section mommas

Heya so possibly TMI but question for all the c section mommas
So my 6 weeks post c section was Oct 7th and my partner and I have been sexually active since then, every time we do (and it’s a very weird way to explain it but only way I know how) I get that uncomfortable pain like when you can feel that you need to change a tampon and it starts to be too uncomfortable, I only get this feeling during and after sex and have never felt this before the c section. Even after a natural birth with my first boy everything was fine. Is this normal to have this feeling?

Waters broken? Almost 35 weeks

I was sat in bed just now and when I stood up there was a large wet patch on the bed, I didn’t even notice it happening. It wasn’t huge but more than any sort of discharge patch I’ve had before. Also I’m usually a bit wet down there with the discharge but it’s dry all of a sudden. Have my waters broken or just a one off large discharge maybe? It only had a faint smell
