Hi! I wasn't allowed to pass my due date because they thought my baby was big, so I was induced. It is a long process, I get to 9cm but stopped there, so I ended up having an emergency c section and after the doctor took my baby out, he said she was stuck. I asked why did they do not recommend a c section straight away considering my baby was big for me and he said they are never sure 100% of how big is the baby and that was the reason to let me go through a normal delivery.
I was advised my baby was between 96-99% on the growth chart. I went into labour naturally the day before I was due to be induced at 39 weeks I had a lot of fluid though and he kept “floating” back up so I was taken for an emergency C-Section (Which I was terrified of) but it was actually absolutely fine. He was 9.2lbs when born Feel free to message me with any questions as sat at home by myself with little one snoring 😂
Mine was measuring 4 weeks ahead every time. My labor started naturally at 37 weeks and he ended up being 8lbs8oz! He would be quite huge if he made it till week 40. I had a vaginal birth, but at 40 I’d probably go with a c section.
I was placed on the big baby trial and induced early as baby was measuring big. Worst decision I ever made. I was stuck in for a week. The toughest, hardest, draining, most challenging week of my life and I vowed that I’d never put myself through it again. My baby weighed 9lb5oz born. Once I actually went into labour, it was really easy and he basically slid out wishing 2hours. I wouldn’t advise getting induced because of a big baby. The majority of the time they are easier to push out and you’ll have no difficulties whatsoever. Also as others said, I was on a ward full of people being induced for big babies. I was the only one who ended up having a big baby. The rest were all under 8lb! They can be so off! Xx
My baby was 10 pounds and I did natural birth. I had no idea he would be that big.
They’ve told me my boy is measuring 3 weeks bigger than he should be and to expect the midwives to step in at 37 weeks and induce me as they predict by then he’ll be 10lb + 😱😱 so... let’s see I guess! 😂 my hubby is 6 foot 4 and I’m just off 6 foot so this kid was never going to be featherweight! 🤣🤣

At what stage in your pregnancy will you be told if the baby is measuring big? My boyfriends family all have big babies, and I’m scared mines going to be big too. My bump is already huge at 22weeks.

I was told at 27 weeks 💙 not sure if there is a specific time but I had an extra scan as I moved areas so had to have one at my new hospital
Ah thank you! Just wondering how it worked, I’ve had my 20 week scan and I think that’s the last one unless there’s any issues. Hope everything goes well for you! Xx
My mom gave birth to me at home, as a first baby and I was 12 pounds 🤣 she wasn’t induced but she got pitocin at the last minutes of labor because midwife was ina hurry. She says it wasn’t so hard, it was only hard after pitocin. No important tears or anything. My sisters were born at hospital but no induction or pain meds again. They were around 9-10 pounds. We all came after the due date. Especially my youngest sister who was the lightest among us came around 42 weeks. Doctors always measure babies wrong anyways, so you actually have no idea about your baby’s weight right now. And even if the baby is bigger, our bodies are made for this. If you choose to you can get all the i tervention and help you can get. I personally would prefer to let baby decide and not intervene much.
Both of my babies were "supposed" to be smaller than they were. They told me my daughter would be 6 lbs she came out 8.6 and they said my son would be 9 lb he came out 10.3! No intervention, but took a crazy long time to heal. Your baby will be just the size he's meant to be at ♥️
My baby measured large from 20 weeks as well. My husband was a large baby and his brothers were as well. My doctor gave me the option of being induced or having a c section. She also said I could wait until 40 weeks and at that point if she wasn’t born we would want to get something scheduled for 41. I chose induction at 39, personally I wish I had chosen a c section. She was 9.5lbs and her head was huge like it measured 😂 they aren’t always right like many said and you never really know. I assumed it was pretty accurate given my husband and his brothers birthweights but again you can never really know. Because she was so big and I pushed for so long I ended up having a bladder prolapse. I guess a c section would have given me a different set of issues. Eh either way, I wouldn’t trade her for the world! My induction wasn’t a bad experience at all....it lasted 2.5 days but when things began moving, they moved QUICKLY. Our bodies are capable of SO much.
They told me my baby would be over 10 pounds! She was only 7 pounds haha
I had a big ole baby, 10 lbs! She came on her own the day before my due date and was born vaginally without any intervention.

You go mama ! Ooooo our bodies are just amazing
They really are! The 10 pounder was a bit of a surprise too, the dr thought she would be around 8 🙄😆
The doctor can always be wrong they said I’m 19% n also said he’s 8 1/2 pds so that doesn’t make any sense at all. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ Think the % is more how big our stomach is not the baby inside
Perhaps not the best person to comment as my baby was 7lb11oz and arrived at 39+6 but me and my husband decided that I wouldn’t be induced if I went over. Your body and your baby know when the time is right, the baby will come out eventually! Plus we found that the doctors and midwives are very vocal that they had no idea what actually starts labour off, ie why is it that time that the baby starts to come. So if they don’t know that how can they try to replicate it with an induction? Personally I think let nature take its course, if you’re going to have a big baby your body will know what to do. Also that picture is stunning, hot mama 🔥 best of luck! Xx

I measured on the 90th percentile and was huge!! I gave birth 39 +6 and my little girl was only 5lb13oz. I ended up having to have an emergency c-section as she was not decending. I think bigger babies can be easier to birth too, as they are closer to your muscles when you are pushing. Trust your body, it won't make a baby that it can't deliver. Doctors seem love to push for early induction!
At 36 weeks scan baby measuring 9lb5 I was booked for a section for 37 weeks and she was 8lb 15. Had appointment yesterday for second pregnancy and the consultant asked what was my reason for section I said the consultant last year advised it was best option due to size but he didn’t agree and said it’s up to me if I wish to be induced this time. Measuring yesterday at 28 week scan 2lb 13oz
Wow ladies. Thank you all so much for your comments every single one of your stories are so helpful to me and gives me such a better idea of what to expect. I will deffo be going what I think my body can do instead of just the drs opinion. Thank you all so much 💙💙💙
Just wanted to say what a beautiful mama! Love the photo 😌 hope all goes well...follow your instincts I say!
Growth scans arent always accurate. My first measured 90th percentile and was 3.4 kgs (7lbs) at birth so very average, my second baby was 4.2 kgs (9.2lbs) and had him vaginally with no issues.
Mine were all early 8.1, 5.10, 10.11 & 9.13... your body is amazing and will not steer you wrong.
I had a scan when I was 38 weeks as was measuring 4 weeks ahead. They told me my baby was about 7 pound. When it came to her coming at 40+1. I give birth naturally to a 9 pounder
I had an ultrasound at 32 weeks and they said she was measuring over 5 lbs. At my 34 week appt, dr does the measuring tape measurement on my belly (fundal) and said that was also measuring ahead. She said I will be induced at 39 weeks due to a big baby and she doesn’t want her to get too big to where I have a difficult delivery. I have an u/s tomorrow for my 36 weeks to see how how big she is
They told me my first was huge with a ginormous head. He was breech so I had a scheduled c section. I had a TON of late ultrasounds to check position but they always commented on his size and said I was lucky to not have to try and push him out. He ended up being 7lbs 7oz when born at 39 weeks. His head was only 47th percentile. Ultrasound technology is by now means and exact science. Please don’t put too much stock in it.
My doctors told me i was having a 7 pound baby. I feel like they push induction on a lot of people who dont need it or scare them into thinking their body isnt capable of doing it. I had a regular vaginal birth and my friends tell me i had a big baby 8 pounds 5 ounces (im also 5 feet tall). But i dont consider that big as my mom whos the same size had me naturally and i was 9.5 pounds 🤣. Just do what feels right to you, but dont let them squash your confidence, youre body can do amazing things.
I measured 3 weeks ahead from 30 wks and he came 3 weeks early at 37+2, 6lb 14oz. The scans for size aren't seemingly that accurate either way.
I was measuring 3 weeks ahead from 35 weeks on, scans came back good. They claimed he was a "big baby", 9lbs ish...I tried vaginally but stopped dialating so had a c section since my water was broke. He was 8lbs 1oz 🙄
My baby 8 1/2 pds measuring small they said I’m 39 weeks. I think 8 1/2 is huge. It’s your choice to do a c section or natural at least at my hospital it is.
I’m in the same boat! I was measuring 3lb 4oz at 29 weeks and now I’m 33 weeks and she’s weighing over 5lb!! Really hoping for a natural birth this time but we’ll see 😅
They say big babies push themselves out so that's kind of a stupid theory whomever thought that the bigger the baby that you'd need a section. It's a big procedure. They get the weight wrong on those scans all the time.

Had a 8lbs 3oz and a 9lbs 5oz both vaginal and didn’t need to be induced. Our bodies are amazing ! Congratulations ❤️
They expected my first to be between 7-8 lbs and she turned out being 9.12 with a head circumference in the 98% percentile. I had an epidural but had worn off by the time I actually delivered her. They didn’t use forceps, suction, nor episiotomy and I only had 2 internal abrasions but no tearing. Perineal massage was crucial! Listen to your body and don’t be afraid to ask for meds. Focusing on each push really helped me, as well as resting between each contraction. Breathe through the pain and don’t get overwhelmed. This time they’re already expecting my baby to be over 10 lbs, so we’ll see how it goes! 😬
I measured big with both my kids but they were both small. My son was 6 pounds 13 ounces and my daughter was 5 pounds 15 ounces
You look amazing! Your baby is the perfect size your body! I truly believe that xx
My last baby was 9lbs 10 oz. Delivered vaginally without induction. Trust your body. It can do great things.
My first pregnancy my bump was measuring 2/3weeks ahead I believe and everyone was like ur gonna have a 10lb baby. but when my son was born he was only 8lb 6oz and he was 52 cm long so I think they get it a little off a lot. X
Ye i agree with the other ladies that they can be off the mark with weight. They thought my LG would be on the smaller side as i had a large cyst taking up some of her room & had extra growth scans etc they were saying around 7lbs. She was 8lb 4oz. She was a long labour (35hrs from water breaking) with a forcep delivery but no need for c section even with my cyst.
My baby was measuring on the bigger side, estimated weight was 9pound10, I was induced at 40 weeks and 5 days. She finally arrived via csection due to the induction failing. 1 week and 1 day late weight 8 pound 6.

I was offered the induction due to baby being on the bigger side.
I always measured big too, had growth scans from 32 weeks! Constantly told baby would be 9lb at his smallest but most likely 10lb or 11lb. Consultant wanted to Induce me just before 40 weeks but I declined. Waters broke at 39+6 anyway and he was 8lb 1oz!!! Was so glad I went with my gut! You will always know best ☺️
I am doing the positive birth company online course. She says that the NICE guidance states ‘size is not a reason for induction’ .. good luck regardless of what you choose! You look fab xx
I was told I was going to have a 'big baby' and offered a sweep at 38 weeks and an induction on my due date and the doctor was worrying me about shoulder dystocia. I declined both. Your body will not make a baby too big for you. Apparently bigger babies are easier to birth as you have gravity on your side. Mine ended up being 8lb 15oz. I had a home birth, 12 days overdue, with no pain relief. Had a bit of tearing as she had a big head. I'm really pleased I didn't listen to the doctor!
My 2nd son was my biggest at 9lb 6oz and he was my easiest delivery! 2 hours start to finish at home!
Hey! I was measuring 4 weeks ahead on both my 1st and 2nd baby, they told me on both that baby would be massive. They both were born 7lb 13 and 7lb 12 so dont worry they get it wrong half the time 😊 x
I think the general guidance is - if the only "issue" (see use of " ") is a big baby, that is not a reason to induce early. Will link you to a recent cochrane review.

I realise you asked for experiences - I've yet to have mu suspected large baby but have a lot of time on my hands and like to read around a subject xx
There is a handy infographic but it's a pdf https://www.cochrane.org/CD000938/PREG_induction-labour-or-near-end-pregnancy-babies-suspected-being-very-large-macrosomia
My baby was 9.9 and I was allowed to have natural birth ended in emergency c section though xx

Hey Shannon, I got told I was having a big baby but she turned out to be under 7lb.

Its not very accurate when they tell you and a few mums told me the same who had normal safe deliveries. I did book a induction at 40 weeks though as it was risky
I’m not sure if it makes a difference Izzy but the NICE guidance states a big baby is not a reason for induction. If you want it, great! But if they say you need it and you don’t really want to, the government guidance is that size alone isn’t a reason xx
