Did you have any signs leading up to labor or did everything happen at once?

I’m 39 weeks and haven’t dropped or had one braxton hick contraction, just lightening pains. I feel like labor is so far away...

I never had any signs at all. My water just broke 1 night at 40+3

I started to get lower back pains and cramps. I started to just feel really uncomfortable and then My waters broke at home in bed that night, but I think it's pretty rare for you waters to brake naturally..

I didn’t drop at all or have any braxton hicks or anything. Just started with a little bit of stitch one morning/ afternoon and then contractions started at 7pm and I had her at 1.18 in the afternoon the next day xx 💗

I was scheduled to get an induction the morning of 40w 2d. I actually started going into labor very early (middle of night).

Before that I had literally no signs of going into labor.

My little one was 9 days late, I had no clues and didn’t drop! Felt contractions at 3am and she came at 9.22am! Every baby is different though 🙂 good luck x

I didn’t drop and I wasn’t dilated the week before and he seemed really comfy in there lol BUT my water broke exactly 39 weeks!

I'm 39+4 and I have had no dropping or signs or anything either, I'm miserable can't wait don't want to go over. My 6 week maternity unpaid leave clock starts running on my due date so I am so screwed if she decides to come late. Hopefully we get lucky chicka!

Avatar

No signs at all - I finished work at 1pm to start my maternity leave and my water broke at 5pm the same day! 😂

Avatar

I had my ‘show’ about 4 days before my first contraction (3 days before my due date) no braxton hicks x

Avatar

I had Braxton Hicks and one night it felt like more intense cramping and I started timing it and a few hours after bled and headed to the hospital

Avatar

I didn’t drop at all, I just slowly started loosing my mucus plug for a day or two and then had what felt like “period pains” which then turned into my contractions!

Avatar

I was due to get induced at 8am on the 3rd Dec, woke up at 6am that day having mild contractions and he was born at home at 7.33am!! I was 42 weeks!xx

40w4d with baby one—never had any contractions that I could feel, had been 4cm for at least a week, got up and felt “heavier” that day, went for an NST and started having some cramping, dr checked me & sent me home. 9ish hrs from that first cramp baby girl was born.

Oh no I like i may have what is happening to you. I've had some Braxton Hicks, but they're small. Do you have any pelvic pressure and are soar on your hips?!

Avatar

You probably are having braxton hicks and just don’t realise as they don’t hurt for some. I was on a monitor this week and the midwife pointed out I was having a braxton hick, no pain at all but my bump had gone hard for approx 90 seconds. We are lucky! Since they pointed it out I’ve noticed the bump goes hard pretty regularly, if I had pain with it it would be awful!!

I’ve also not ‘dropped’ but baby head is now really low and engaged, again I was excited for the ‘lightening’ and more room for lungs, but baby is now both low and high so I don’t get that typical ‘dropped’ feeling!

I’ve been told many times by midwives that what we see on tv or films rarely happens, there’s often no obvious build up or dramatic waters breaking but some subtle signs in our bodies if we know what to look for.

It’s fascinating, but also this last bit is so hard! Good luck mama!

39 weeks & I felt nothing at all. At my last appointment the doctor explained how the first pregnancy can often go to 41 weeks and to adjust my expectations. She explained what would be done if & when I needed to be induced. Lol I was not happy but I was prepared for another 2 weeks ugh....

Two days later and I started "peeing" on myself. Wait. No. My water has broke!

No contractions or anything just tons of leaking on my self lol... a few hours later, they did have to induce contractions after all because I had a premature rupture. So, I felt no pain whatsoever until I was already in the hospital & all hooked up.

Lots of pain at that point but everything went fine. I did get drugs eventually as induction pains were baaad - way to frequent & strong AF.

Avatar

All ‘signs’ I had were only around a day before. It was all sudden and things happened overnight. Everyone is different though

Avatar

The day before my water broke, I had mild cramping all day, nothing to harsh or extreme. Then woke up at 6:30am because my water broke!

Avatar

I had no pre labour signs. I was 37 weeks pregnant. I was on a day off from work and went to get my haircut. Stood up after they finished drying it and my waters went (movie style) started having contractions about 3 hours later - had baby about 6 hours after that. Hoping it goes the same for baby number 2 - minus the waters breaking in the hairdressers as that was embarrassing 🤦🏻‍♀️

Avatar

I lost my mucus plug maybe a day or two before , woke up with contractions at 5am - contractions became closer and stronger , checked into hospital around 5pm water broke naturally then delivered at 7pm

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say “you forget the pain once they’re here” but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
