Hey mamas! Quick question from a first-time mom. My almost-6-year-old has been in her room taking photos and videos of her private parts over the past couple of months (about 4 videos and 3 photos). In the clips she mostly pulls her pants down to expose her private areas and then pulls them back up. When I ask why, she says she doesn’t know. I’ve asked a few separate times with no clearer answer. But she did state that deleted the files because she didn’t want anyone to see them on her tablet.
I’ve asked all the questions: Did anyone show you this? Did someone tell you to do it? Is anyone touching you? Did you watch something that shows this behavior? She’s very innocent and acts like a typical five-year-old at home, and I never expected this at her age. I’m trying to understand if this could be curiosity or something more, and why she felt the need to record it.
Has anyone else experienced this with their five- or nearly-six-year-old? Is this just early curiosity, or should I be worried or seek professional help? I’m feeling overwhelmed and a bit traumatized.
