Hydronephrosis Babies đź’š

A safe place for mothers to discuss their baby’s kidney/renal pelvis dilation. When posting, let us know your child’s age (or how far along you are). If you know which kidney is affected & at what degree of severity, please include that as well. There are 5 grades of Hydronephrosis; 1 representing very minimal dilation & 5 representing severe dilation. Typically, grades 1 to 2 are considered “mild” & can resolve on their own. Grade 3 is considered “moderate” & may or may not need to be surgically corrected. Lastly, Grade 4-5 is considered “severe” & will most likely need corrective surgery. Surgical methods & timelines for surgery will vary case to case.

Antibiotics side effects

Hey girls,

My 2 week old boy has been out on antibiotics (Trimethoprim) a very small does to avoid infections. They really upset his stomach to the point he’s squirming in pain all through the night.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there an alternative?

Pregnancy scans

20 week scan complications with kidneys

At my 20 week scan, they noticed my baby’s kidneys were enlarged, UPJ (Ureteropelvic Junction)

I was then referred to the fetal medicine for further scans. I had 2 further scans. At my latest 26 week scan, 1 kidney has remained the same (9mm) but 1 has increased in size by more than double (24mm).

They will continue to monitor this, incase the fluid around the baby gets compromised, they may have to induce me/c section earlier than my due date, as close to 37 weeks as possible if safe for baby to stay inside to this point.

I would also have to travel over an hour to a different hospital for this, for specialists to intervene when baby is born.

Looking for some support/advice from any mamas who has went through this or similar, I am so worried and concerned for my baby.

Pregnancy Week by Week: Second Trimester

No Reflux-What’s Next?

My daughter had the VCUG done today and the initial findings showed no reflux in the kidney that has hydronephrosis. Very difficult to watch that being done but good news. I suspect they’ll want to see if there’s a blockage next. Does anyone know what that test is like?

Pregnancy scans

Looking for reassurance

Hey mamas. So looking for past experience of this and trying to understand the likely outcome. I’m 35 weeks + 4 days, and baby’s Kidneys were picked up on the Anatomy scan at 20 weeks as having excess fluid in 1. A few weeks later the excess fluid switched to other side. Now at 35 weeks the fluid is approaching 15ml on each kidney.

Will baby need to be delivered early? Will baby be okay to hold in there to 40 weeks? What was your experience of this once they arrived / treatment etc.
