Hi I’ve just started giving my boy puréed vegetables, however I’ve been told not to put him in the high chair as he isn’t able to sit completely on his own. What does able to sit on his own actually mean? I want him to eat food himself but not sure when to put him in the high chair. Help!
And FYI he is able to eat the purée fine thanks!

I don't want to be one of those people, because I weaned early, but they're not supposed to start weaning until they can sit comfortably on their own. I know you say he can eat the purees fine but there's a higher risk of choking if they can't sit by themselves. Where are you currently feeding? Does he have a Bouncer of anything that he can sit up fairly straight in? X

Sitting unaided means he can sit up without you holding him.
This is one of the signs he’s ready to start weaning, it may be a little too soon if he’s not sitting yet? Xx

Im sorry but if he can’t sit he probably shouldn’t be starting solids yet

I would take it to mean you pop him in the sitting position and he can sit on his own unsupported without falling back or to the side.

If he can’t sit up then he shouldn’t be being weaned unfortunately, could cause him damage later on in life

As above - if he’s not able to sit on his own yet, it’s not fully safe to be weaning him. I would wait until he is ready.

We used the fisher price sit me up chair to start with- really helped her sitting and it has a little tray. Then moved into a high chair when she was fully sitting x

It means they are confident in sitting without the need for supportive pillows or props. They can hold the position themselves with a good, straight back.
