Delayed Cord Clamping

I've read about the benefits of this recently and have added it to my birth plan, just wondering if anybody else has included it/ already had it done ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Yes I have this as part of my birth plan too x

I did with my last pregnancy, and a physiological 3rd stage. All in all took about 35 mins to clamp and deliver my placenta.
Will be doing kt again this time x

I have it as part of mine but the midwife did say that now itโ€™s just good practice and a lot of hospitals do it anyway (unless thereโ€™s some kind of issue). โ˜บ๏ธ

The standard practice now is to leave it for at least 10 mins or so before cutting, but Iโ€™ve put in my birth plan that I want it connected as long as physically possible

Avatar

I've asked about this too and apparently it's done anyway now as standard unless the baby needs to be taken away bc of a problem or something x

Avatar

Yes, I've said yes to it on my birth plan too ๐Ÿ‘

Yes me too x

Yes I've put it on my birth plan ๐Ÿ˜ but also been told it's now standard practice at my NHS Trust which is good x

My midwife said they generally do this as standard practice now at our hospital, unless there's an emergency. She said they wait until the colour starts to drain from the cord before they clamp and cut, so I didn't put it in my birth plan ๐Ÿ˜Š
She also said they recommend an hour of skin to skin as a minimum before they take baby for checks too, unless they have concerns ๐Ÿ˜Š

This is really good to know! Thank you all ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Yes, Iโ€™ve also put this in my birth plan along with not washing or wiping off the vernix on the baby x

Yup, I have said yes to this and added to my birthplan. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

My midwife taught me that you actually naturally birth the placenta around 30 min after birthing the baby. You get contractions and the urge to push again and everything (but not nearly as intense as the baby). Hospital's usually pull the placenta out much sooner. I'm going to wait for the natural birth of the placenta, and the cord will stay attached until the placenta is out.

Iโ€™m guessing this u isnโ€™t a choice with a c section ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

I waited to cut the cord until after I birthed my placent

I did it with my daughter but they was very reluctant to do it at mayday hospital. You cut the cord when it stops pulsating which give the baby enough oxygen to the brain whilst entering our world, also carries benefits of higher IQ.

Questions from other people?

Anyone else being asked really weird and at times personal questions about having a c section? Like everything from โ€œhow many inches do you think theyโ€™ll cut you?โ€ to โ€œis your partner happy then since youโ€™re keeping things neat?โ€

Big baby boy!๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿฉต

So today I went to my midwives appointment and Iโ€™m currently 33 weeks and 6 days pregnant. Last time I had my appointment was the 13th April 2026 and my stomach was measured to be 29cm. Today 1st May, I was measured at 36cm. My midwife was shocked and said that itโ€™s grown 7cm in the span of 2.5 weeks and had to re measure it 3 times to make sure. She asked if it felt heavier which I do ofc. She booked me in with an ultrasound scan to see the babyโ€™s actually growth.
I remember my 2nd ultrasound scan at 20 weeks the lady said that my baby was on the bigger end.

Has anyone experienced this before? Do they induce you or tell you to get a c section? Iโ€™m so scared!!

Anybody else?

I feel like Iโ€™m second guessing every symptom I have at the moment and questioning whether it means labour could be starting. Anyone else who has had there baby or maybe this isnโ€™t their first able to help me? For the last few days Iโ€™ve been feeling very nauseous and had an upset tummy (if you know what I mean) I feel like my body isnโ€™t working right. Each evening Iโ€™ve had stomach pains and cramping for the last 4 nights. Today I also had some intense pains at half 2-4 that Iโ€™m sure werenโ€™t contractions (they were bad but only lasting a few seconds and were not on a schedule). Iโ€™m really mentally struggling now and need my baby here sooner rather than later. Anyone in a similar boat or had a similar experience. I feel like my mood is plummeting everyday with this waiting around. Iโ€™m 38w5ds for reference

Pelvic floor - Is this normal?

In 5 weeks pp and had a forceps delivery with episiotomy and an internal tear. Iโ€™ve been doing pelvic floor exercises as the midwife said but I still get a pressure at the end of the day. I also have piles so trying to workout what is causing the pressure. It doesnโ€™t hurt but feels the same as if you have a dry tampon in.. anyone else? Any advice?
