I've read about the benefits of this recently and have added it to my birth plan, just wondering if anybody else has included it/ already had it done ๐๐

Yes I have this as part of my birth plan too x

I did with my last pregnancy, and a physiological 3rd stage. All in all took about 35 mins to clamp and deliver my placenta.
Will be doing kt again this time x

I have it as part of mine but the midwife did say that now itโs just good practice and a lot of hospitals do it anyway (unless thereโs some kind of issue). โบ๏ธ

The standard practice now is to leave it for at least 10 mins or so before cutting, but Iโve put in my birth plan that I want it connected as long as physically possible

I've asked about this too and apparently it's done anyway now as standard unless the baby needs to be taken away bc of a problem or something x

Yes, I've said yes to it on my birth plan too ๐

Yes me too x

Yes I've put it on my birth plan ๐ but also been told it's now standard practice at my NHS Trust which is good x

My midwife said they generally do this as standard practice now at our hospital, unless there's an emergency. She said they wait until the colour starts to drain from the cord before they clamp and cut, so I didn't put it in my birth plan ๐
She also said they recommend an hour of skin to skin as a minimum before they take baby for checks too, unless they have concerns ๐

This is really good to know! Thank you all ๐๐

Yes, Iโve also put this in my birth plan along with not washing or wiping off the vernix on the baby x

Yup, I have said yes to this and added to my birthplan. ๐๐ป

My midwife taught me that you actually naturally birth the placenta around 30 min after birthing the baby. You get contractions and the urge to push again and everything (but not nearly as intense as the baby). Hospital's usually pull the placenta out much sooner. I'm going to wait for the natural birth of the placenta, and the cord will stay attached until the placenta is out.

Iโm guessing this u isnโt a choice with a c section ๐

I waited to cut the cord until after I birthed my placent

I did it with my daughter but they was very reluctant to do it at mayday hospital. You cut the cord when it stops pulsating which give the baby enough oxygen to the brain whilst entering our world, also carries benefits of higher IQ.
