So I’m currently 11 weeks so have ages to go but always find my self thinking how my kitten is going to react to me bringing a baby home, we live in a small 1 bed flat with a study big enough to be a small bedroom and worry that it’s going to be to small for them both to live happy, anyone have any tips my kitten will be 1 year old when my baby is born

My kitties warmed right up to my baby. They were a little skeptical at first. They weren’t mean at all, but they would just keep their distance. Now they’re besties. The only thing that I struggled with was them jumping in all the baby gear, but I just lined everything with aluminum foil and they stopped.

Give your kitty plenty of attention and when the new arrival of baby comes home, introduce them and continue to give your kitty the same amount of attention as before so they don't get jealous. Cats usually warm up right away to a new member so your cat will probably be just fine.

There’s a section on the cats protection website that’s got some good information about introducing a cat to a baby, I’ve followed a few of the steps on there. I’m due next month though so can’t say whether it worked yet or not!

Cats hate change. We’ve had real problems with kitty anxiety in the run up to baby being born. They hated the spare room being changed into a nursery and started spraying everywhere and scratching everything to make themselves feel more secure. I would say start making small changes as early as possible, way before the baby comes, to get them used to things. The last thing you want is for everything to suddenly change when baby arrives. You can also play crying baby sound effects before baby arrives so they don’t freak out when the baby cries 😂

My youngest cat is almost exactly 1 year older than my baby and he’s been okay, he was a bit miffed at not being able to sleep in our room anymore so maybe kick him out in a few months so he doesn’t associate it with baby. He does try and play with my little ones toes so he is the one I need to watch out for most (I have 2 older cats and a dog) but other than that he loves hanging about with his brother xx

My kittens were fine with my son apart from them sterling his toys

Our cats are 5 years olds and we live in a 500sqft 1br, so it's a little bit tight now with our 5 month old. The cats generally keep away from the baby, I think they are afraid of her 😅

I would check out www.FamilyPaws.com - it's mostly about dogs, but they have tips for cats as well, especially if you call their hotline.

I have two cats and they absolutely LOVE My daughters. (Newborn and 1 year old) I do make sure to watch them and keep them apart at night because the cats like to party the most at night🥲🤣 make sure baby is careful with the cat but the worse my cat has done was run away lol and run when they see her but they're friends now

I had a 1 year old kitten she used to sleep on my big belly never left me alone. Baby has come and she’s not bothered by him, she won’t go near him but doesn’t mind him. She did give birth to 3 kittens 6 weeks after I gave birth so we went maternity together 🤣 she made a little less fuss then I did about it though 🤣

We have a very grumpy 18 year old cat, who has attacked most of our friends just for walking in to the house! 😂 Our 11 month LG has managed to grab her a few times (we always try & keep her away, just those rare occasions she’s managed to get to her) & she hasn’t done a thing. We honestly can’t believe how good she is with her, she’ll happily chill in the same room as her (when she’d go for strangers! 😂). Your cat may surprise you 🥰😊

We have a 4yr old Tabby. He hasn't really paid attention to the baby. He smelt his feet, well still smells his feet every so often but he just walks by him and doesn't pay much attention. Baby born is making 5mths. I've let him touch the cats fur and he's made eye contact. I guess when baby is moving about more the cat will be more interactive. But he's also a fat lazy cat, picture Garfield 😂😂, so I don't know.

I was worried about bringing a baby home to my 2 year old cat. He was very nervous at first but over time, he came around to love our son. He is so patient with him. He never scratches or bites him (which I was worried about because he does with other people). Our son is a toddler now and we are teaching how to be soft and gentle with our cat 💙
