Yes it's fine as long as you maintain good hygiene. I'm a vet nurse and had to clean many cat litter trays throughout my pregnancy! The risk of toxoplasmosis is very low but there is still a risk none the less and this is transmitted by touching their faeces and then it being ingested. Mask isn't necessary as it's not airborne. Xx

I’ve changed chat litter whilst pregnant and been fine xx

Just maintain good hygiene while doing so you should be fine. Most of the concern comes from outdoor cats so if they are an outdoor cat I would take extra precautions just to be extra safe

she’s an indoor cat as well so I believe the risk is even lower. Also have litter liners so I would be ‘touching’ her poo xx

Have you been tested since getting pregnant for antibodies? I seem to have had toxoplasmosis prior to pregnancy as my bloods the obgyn ran have shown (years of cat litter cleaning probably!?). So now I don't need to be careful anymore apparently.

Toxoplasmosis takes 24-48 hours to become active. Make sure to clean every day preferably twice a day and it'll lower the risk. You can get doggy poop bags or those grocery store veggie bags. Clean with mask and gloves on, toss the mask and gloves and the litter bag into a second bag before you shower in the morning/night. That pretty much safe.. nothing is a 100%. I got tested to make sure even though my cats are indoor.

Honestly I wore a mask, just for extra precaution, my boyfriend does it now but doesn’t hurt to take a little extra step to be safe 🤷🏼♀️

I wore a mask and disposable gloves while cleaning litter box while I was pregnant. Also washed and sanitized my hands afterward.

Yes just be sensible and safe.. I've got lots of cats and I've just gloved up and masked 😷 up and washed very thoroughly while pregnant.. my man has done it mostly but he's not religious with it like me so I've had to get involved like the control freak I am lol x

I wore a mask and washed my hands each time. I was lucky though my cat would just go once during the night so every morning I would clear it up. I’ve been okay throughout x

Vet nurse here too 👋🏻 As above, you should be absolutely fine with maintaining good hygiene. It’s also worth making sure that you keep up to date with regular parasite treatment for fleas and also worming tablets, this will reduce the risk as well even though she is an indoor cat ☺️ xx

If she is indoor only there is almost no chance of toxoplasmosis. Just don’t touch poop directly and wash your hands before and after. You can always wear gloves too:

Just use gloves and a mask and wash your hands really well. My moms friend had a kid with toxoplasmosis and although it’s rare, it happens.

Yeah I cleaned my cats litter tray out and my rabbit I’ve had toxoplasmosis with my first pregnancy it seems n never knew about it wernt till I was pregnant with my 2nd it got picked up that I’d had it previously but like say I never knew n I’m fine n so are both my children so u could catch it n never know n both my cats are indoor cat too

i will let you know if i’m okay in a week or two when i give birth!! i have four indoor cats and i cleaned their poop no mask and no gloves until about a week ago lol oops
