Jet2 holidays for next year and flying after 27 weeks.

Is anyone else planning on going abroad early next year and flying with Jet2?

I booked a holiday with Jet2 for January 2023 for my 30th birthday. At the time i had no idea i would be pregnant (i wasn’t even trying at this point) the holiday is paid in full and i very much still want to go. By the time i fly i’ll be about 27 weeks pregnant and as per Jet2’s terms and conditions at 27 weeks pregnant you must get a medical note explaining you are fit to fly and have a healthy pregnancy with no complications. The note has to be dated within 7 days of your outbound flight and 16 days of your inbound flight.

It’s all really confusing and I’m not sure who is meant to do this note? Whether it be my GP or midwife. I spoke to my midwife about it but she wasn’t helpful at all and just laughed, she seemed annoyed that the airline would request such a thing.

Next week I’m going to phone Jet2 and speak to someone about it, see if i can get some clarification. In the meantime i wondered if anyone else is having a similar issue?

I'm a travel agent and my clients have never had any problem getting it from their midwife ... I wouldn't risk going to the airport with out one though especially if you have a visible bump as they can deny boarding x

thanks for your reply ☺️ I’ll ask my midwife again at my 24 week appointment. When i asked her last time it seemed like she had no idea what i was talking about. Ive actually sent Jet2 a message now so i’ll see what they say.

Ive spoken to someone from Jet2 and they allow you to fly with them up to 35 weeks pregnant but require a letter at 27 weeks. They have given me a form that i can have signed and dated by my midwife instead of a letter. Its a bit annoying but at least i know what im doing now as its not very clear on their website.

My midwife said to ask before flying, as GP will most likely charge you for the paper

I got a note from my doctor to help me cancel a trip to Bali over xmas (because of the Zika risk) and the note was absolutely shockingly written! I had to pay £25 for it too which made it worse! Anyway I sent it off together with my scan reports and managed to get all money back even though originally the holiday company had said we’d have to pay 35% cancellation fee.
Main point behind this message it that doctors notes are crap from experience and that you’d be better off asking Midwife again. Also it’s hugely common to get a note after 28 weeks so your midwife is rude to laugh it off as if it’s out of the question!

I'm going away at 29 weeks and I need a letter from my airline (Emirates). My midwife told me to get it from my GP as the hospital doesn't issue these - apparently. She wasn't a fan of me going on holiday to be honest even though my pregnancy has been good so far 🤷🏻‍♀️

thanks Jenny, thats good to know! Id definitely rather ask my midwife than my GP as its a nightmare even trying to get a phone call with my GP nevermind have them write a letter.
I spoke to Jet2 today and they gave me a form that i can get my midwife to sign instead of writing a letter so thats useful.
Im glad you managed to get your money back for your holiday, sounds like it was very stressful x

aw its nice to know im not the only one going away at that stage in pregnancy ☺️ Oh really? I think everyone gets given different advice, all depends on the midwife i think. I actually spoke to someone from Jet2 today and they gave me a form a can fill out and get my midwife to sign rather than her having to write an actual letter which is easier.
My midwife had the opposite reaction to yours and said i should be fine to fly at that stage. I think she was more annoyed that the airline needed proof to say i was ok. It was a but strange to be honest 😂

Going away in January too! Last pregnancy I had to ask my GP surgery for a note (they didn't see me) and also had to pay.

Aside of letter from gp. emirates have this MEDIF FORM that u have to bring it to Physician to answer and send it back to Emirates 48 hrs before departure

thanks for that - didn't know I'd to bring it to a Physician! Would that be someone from my GP or from the hospital? I'll have a look at it and get this sorted in a week or so.

Childminder or nursery

I’ve noticed that most people in the UK talk about nurseries and how expensive they are, but hardly anyone mentions childminders. From what I understand, childminders are often more affordable, more flexible (for example, if you need to pick up your child a bit later), and they provide a more home-like environment.

They also usually involve a single main caregiver, which I feel can be really positive for attachment, especially for younger children.

So why don’t more people use childminders? Is there any stigma around them in the UK?

I’m asking because my baby goes to a childminder and I’m starting to worry—are they seen as a worse option? Personally, I see some downsides to nurseries too: they tend to be more expensive, and because there are many more children (often of different ages) in the same space, I feel like that can lead to a higher risk of illnesses spreading.

So I’m curious why nurseries seem to be the more popular choice.

Childcare for toddler during labour

For those of you who don't have any family or friends nearby enough to jump in to look after your older child, how did you manage labour and going to hospital to give birth? I'm only 5 weeks pregnant but already stressing about it!

9 month free childcare hours

What an absolute joke the government funded hours are! My baby was born on the 10th July and is 9 months on the 10th April, which falls in the Easter holidays. But she isn’t entitled to any free hours until September when she will be over a year old??? She would have received them in April if she was born 10 days earlier?? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Partner contribution

Feeling very frustrated with my partner at the moment but not sure if I’m being selfish. He has gone back to work but is fully remote so works from home everyday. He sleeps in the spare room and has done since the moment we brought baby home (he is now 8 weeks old). He takes the baby one night over the weekend and I go into the spare room for one undisturbed nights sleep. I get that he is working, so wouldn’t be doing any weekday night feeds, but even after work he doesn’t help very much. I ask him to help me and he’s fine when the baby isn’t fussing but as soon as he starts crying he hands him back to me stating he “cannot do this”. I feel like I get no break. He watches me run up and down the stairs, making bottles tidying the house and does nothing to help, not even a thank you. I feel like I want to go back to work sooner rather than later to even the playing field as he said that when I start working it would be 50/50. Just wondering how everyone else is doing things with a working partner?

Sausages

Has anyone given their little one sausages yet? Mines 9 month old and I want to try him with them but they are not recommended as high in salt. Has anyone found a good brand?

Marriage problems

Anyone having marriage problems since having your baby? I am struggling so much because I feel so alone in it. He’s not the same person I married. And I can’t talk about it with anyone.
