I wouldn't worry too much girl got diagnosed few days back and just prepping meals and working out good healthy snacks 😁You will be testing your blood sugars 4 times a day but one test now takes me like 30 seconds. As long as you keep sugars under control you both will be fine xx

Avatar

I wouldn’t worry too much, I’m measuring 2 weeks ahead and big (growth scans) and I don’t have it, some people just generally have big babies! Have they sent you for a growth scan?

Avatar

I got diagnosed at 27 weeks (now 29w), I went for my first growth scan yesterday and my little one is measuring at the perfect size/weight so far! I wouldn’t worry too much, easier said than done I know!

Avatar

What was your symptoms hun?xx

Avatar

I wouldn’t worry about it just now. They should give you a machine to test your blood before and after meals so see how you get on with that. I got told I have GD and been testing my blood sugar for 2 weeks now and it’s actually been coming back as low every time (haven’t changed my diet at all) so I’m not sure how accurate the GTT is anyway.

Avatar

You should be induced

Avatar

I have it too! Growth scan on Friday, at my 4d scan at 26 weeks he was like nearly 3 weeks ahead of schedule x

Avatar

Hey loves, thank you for your message and advice.. I've been doing my readings and everything is fine.. can I ask to be retested?
My results from my Glucose Test were 5.2 before and 8.5 after

Avatar

4.3? I was was 5.3 and below, that’s what’s in my book too! I wonder why yours is different! I’m struggling to stay under 5.3 I’m usually on the brink or 5.4

Avatar

I was told as long as mine are green then I'm fine, have you had growth scans yet? Xx

Avatar

Oh really! Have to wait and see over Christmas I think, I'm gonna ask to be re tested tbh xx

Avatar

I’ve been wondering if we can be retested as my GTT came back as 8.7 but in my daily readings I’ve been between 4.7-6.2 after every meal, in fact I’ve only had 2 readings in 2 weeks that have been over 6 so makes no sense to me šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Avatar

Sounds like we're pretty similar!
Have you had any growth scans yet? Be interested to know if your baby is measuring bigger?
I had mine yesterday and all is fine
I also don't have any other symptoms of Gestational Diabetes x

Avatar

I’ve got my first growth scan on Tuesday, the midwife measured my belly though on Monday and plotted me as normal on the graph šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø it’s just really annoyed me cuz for one it’s a pain having to keep testing every day for no reason and then they also told me I can’t have the baby in the birthing centre now so ruined my whole birth plan as well šŸ™„

Avatar

I had gestational diabetes and looked big. I had an emergency c-section at 37 weeks maybe weighed only 2.38kg. GD doesn’t always mean big babies

Avatar

I had GD with my levels at GTT were 10.8 I ended up on 4metformin a day and was so close to getting insulin however they decided to induce me at 38wks due to GD I had 1 more midwife appointment the day before induction and they found babies heart rate to be too fast so sent me in for monitoring and induced me their an then. He was born 6hrs later weighing 7lb9 however both my girls where not GD pregnancies and they where 9lb4 and 8lb12. Most GD pregnancy s are induced and u will have a diabetic nurse you report numbers too and extra consultant appointments theirs a few helpful Facebook groups for gestational diabetic mothers. Happy to help if you need any advice

That sux.. sorry 2 hear lovelt

Avatar

I had gd from 18 weeks, doctors midwife’s and even the pharmacist scared me into thinking I would have a huge baby! I was insulin controlled throughout and scans every 2 weeks but he arrived safely through induction at 36+6 weeks weighing 6lb6oz even though my scans said he would be over 8lbs! Scans aren’t always accurate they are just a guide and doctors shouldn’t scare gd women into thinking they are going to have big babies. It’s a terrifying time as it is just rest you know all those baby bells and chicken will be worth it xx

Avatar

It's all been managed from diet so far, a few spikes but nothing bad. Im 39 weeks now and baby is messuring 8lbs 14oz last Thursday but big babies also seem to be genetic for my family and my partners

Avatar

I'm going in for a sweep tomorrow

Avatar

I had that also! I ate burgers with no bread and chicken salad often , if you are cautious about what you're eating everything should be ok

Avatar

I also had Gestational Diabetes. I ate low carb and went on walks after I ate carbs for dinner. when it was time to check my sugar, it was good. My baby weight 6lbs 10oz lol..

Avatar

I had gd too. I completely stopped carbs, not even bread, went for daily walks and had dinner no later than 7:30 pm. But still due to work etc got a few high readings, so they put me on metformin.but All throughout my baby had normal growth scans. I delivered him around 38 weeks, all natural, weighing 2.7 kgs. All the best , you will be fine.

Avatar

Watch what you eat before going into labor! I ate alott of chicken salad so I was full but my numbers wouldn't be up when I went too the delivery room

Avatar

What is that..

Avatar

Change your diet! I had gestational diabetes and I had to see a nutritionist to coach me on how many calories to take in and what I could and could not eat. My blood sugars were tested 3x a day and I was induced at 37 weeks.

Avatar

Omg I never had that but hope your ok watch your diet don't eat much sweets

Avatar

My cousin was told the same thing. She didnt have GD. But was told she was measuring big and the babay was going to be big. He came out weighing 6lbs.

Avatar

i want to piggy back on this comment. I had GD and i stopped CARBS as well. I substituted all of protein to get through the day. I substituted milk to oat milk because there were days I want a bowl full of cereal and I couldn’t because one cup of milk already had alot CARBS. I did tuna salads for lunch. If i had hamburgers i did lettuce instead of buns, when i craved chips i did skinny popcorn. LOTS of water 🤣 lots of eggs , sausage and turkey bacon. I found a low carb pizza recipe online because I CRAVED pizza. Chicken soup, lentil soup. It was hard at first because my OBGYN didnt refer me to a nutritionist and had to do alot of trials.

Avatar

I had gestational diabetes. I had to test my blood sugar 4 times a day and watched my carb and sugar intake. My son was born at 40 weeks and 7 lbs. I only gained 36 lbs during my entire pregnancy. I never wanted sweets I wanted carbs, mainly pasta. You'll get through it. Stay encouraged. ā¤ļø

Avatar

Totally understand your worry but you will be ok if you look after yourself. Also my sister had an 11 lbs baby, she is tiny and she didn't have gd, so it can happen anyway xxx

Avatar

I'm type 1 diabetic and I had an 8lb baby at 35 weeks and a 8lb2 baby at 37 weeks as long as u try keep ur blood sugars low and I mean under 9 or 10 really u will be fine don't let the doctors presure u into thinking u have to keep them at 5.5

Avatar

Hi Dani, If you have not seen this book before, ai recommend it.. Real Food for Gestational Diabetes: An Effective Alternative to the Conventional Nutrition Approach - you can get it on Amazon

Avatar

I also had GD and I was really big but I wouldn’t worry as it doesn’t always mean your baby will be big my daughter was only 5lbs 7oz when she was born x

Avatar

I had GD at 7 weeks which was very early to catch, it was diet controlled and I kept getting the scare of having a large baby as I'm very petit and this petrified me. My LO was born 36weeks healthy only weighting 4lbs, I got a lot of walks in as soon as I found out and feel this really helped my pregnancy.
Don't scare yourself, everyone's experiences are different.

Do active babies in the womb become active newborns?

I had my 40 week ultrasound yesterday (on my due date) and the doctor mentioned how active my baby is. Curious as to your experiences regarding if your baby was active in the womb, are they likely to be active when they’re newborn? 😊

Early Labour?

I’m 34 weeks today, since 3am I’ve been having irregular cramping which becomes quite intense and has caused me to vomit. I’ve also had diarrhoea. Could I be in early labour or could I just have a bad stomach? I feel generally well in myself

I know I won't be running marathons any time soon and probably have to start back at a couch to 5k but when?! I'm getting restless legs! Advice please
