New to formula feeding- nuby rapid cool questions & tips on making bottles

Hey I’m currently breastfeeding but thinking to switch to combination. I bought a nuby rapid cool kit and just wanted to confirm

1. If using cold water sterilisation the Milton tablets normally take 15 minutes but it says to sterilise for 3 hours after each use?

2. I’ve seen some people still use a hot shot method for the nuby but is that necessary? As it says to use it a similar way to the NHS guidelines?

Im just abit new to formula feeding🤣🫣 any tips?

Hey, i use the hotshot method with nuby just because if I mix formula with all the water in the nuby you have to sterilise after each use which if your out for longer then one bottle isn't always easy! With the hot shot no formula goes in nuby and you don't have to sterilise after use x

Hey I also use the hotshot method and I can confirm that you do have to sterilise after every use if putting formula in it. I still sterilise it everyday but I leave it with a Milton tablet in cold water for 15 minutes as it’s a lot easier. The rapid cooler is honestly a god send for us though and we use it everyday x

Hey! I'm also a little confused about this as we currently use the prep machine and make up a bottle before leaving the house as we dont tend to be our for long at the minute but wanting to get out for longer now. So do you leave the formula in the bottle and just cool the hot water in the nuby, then pour the water into the bottle which has the formula? How many oz of boiling water do you add for your hot shot if making a 6 oz bottle? I guess it would be the same as the prep machine - will look next time I make a bottle. Thank you!

I use the prep machine when at home but when I'm out for the day bring a flask of boiling water and nuby and I have the feed portioned out into a powder box...I measure out 6oz into bottle. Keep 1 Oz in bottle and pour the other 5 into the nuby . I add formula to the 1 Oz in the bottle and cool the remaining in the nuby. When it's cool add it to the bottle and it's perfect to drink... Hope this makes sense x

thank you! Do you reuse the bottle for each feed or take multiple bottles out with you? I'd imagine you would need to use different ones for each feed like I do at home. I'm going to need a bigger bag with all this stuff! 🤣

Yes a new bottle for every feed. My bag does be well packed 😅😅 not easy going out with a baby isn't it not haha x

thank you 🙂 do you not find that the milk is too hot if add the perfect temperature water from the nuby to the boiling water hot shot?

I did think it was the other day when I made one bottle but I just thought I left too much hot water in the bottle. I use the mam bottles which doesn't show how much is in the end of them 😅

You can also do the fridge method. All you do is make up how many bottles you will use in 24 hours according to the instructions on the tin, cool them in cold water for 5-10 minutes, put them in the fridge and when you need one just pull it out and warm up with hot tap water!

The light will flash bright green initially but will change to a dull green if you press it again after shaking. It then goes bright green again once it’s the right temp. It confused me too! Xx

the NHS website says made up bottles can only last 4 hours if kept cold and 2 hours if kept at room temperature? Do you find that you've had no problems with this method?

Avatar

4 hours in a cool bag. The fridge method is an approved way of making bottles and we’ve been using it since she was 2 weeks old 😊

that is good to know!

apparently it’s the second recommended way of doing it because it’s safer than prep machines and if you want to do less than a days worth it’s fine! But saves time and makes it easier to figure out how much formula you need

How much does your baby eat

Hello,

How much does your baby eat?

My boy is 4 months (17 + 5 weeks) and he weights 7kg (born 3.5kg)
Sometimes I have feeling he is eating too much…
From yesterday I had to start giving him more food as he started crying after food and asking for more. (100% formula)
He eats around 1.3L in 24 hours (6 feeds with 5 being during the day and 1 overnight) . On internet it says baby can eat 150-200ml per 1kg body weight so in theory my baby can eat max 1.4L so it would tell me he is not eating too much… just on higher end.
Then on internet it says baby shouldn’t eat more than 32oz (900ml) in 24 hours. So I’m a bit confused…

Cheap Car Seat

Hi all,

I need a cheap car seat for my mums car just for when she looks after my daughter incase she needs to pop out.

I ain’t particularly concerned over safety because it’s literally for emergencies only, as she plans everything around childcare - but I need something just incase she needs to go out.

Ideally looking for something under £80 - my daughters nearly 2 x

Not sleeping (i need help!)

I’m desperate! My 7 month old has been a terrible sleeper for a while but seems to be getting worse, he’s sleeping every 2/3hours throughout the night then taking over an hour to get back to sleep and I’ve tried everything to help him sleep longer throughout the night, I’ve extended his wake windows, offered him extra ounces of formula before sleep, we have a white noise machine, I’ve tried patting him, rocking him and even tried to techniques to help him self sooth and I even try co sleeping and nothing seems to be working that helps him sleep longer😩 And I’m starting to really struggle mental health wise as I’m not sleeping due to the constant wake ups! I need help I’m desperate 😩

Sleep struggle 5 month old

Hi, my baby is 5 months old and I’m really struggling with his sleep.
I understand that waking for feeds is normal, but he wakes up almost every hour. He usually goes to sleep around 8:00–9:00 pm and gives one longer stretch of about 2 hours. After that, the wake-ups become very frequent. For example, if he wakes around 1:00 am, he then starts waking every 1 to 1.5 hours.
Most of the time, he doesn’t even feed properly he just keeps the nipple in his mouth for comfort and falls back asleep.
I’m feeling extremely exhausted and sleep deprived. He is exclusively breastfed and does not accept a bottle at all.
I’m not sure how to manage this situation or how to break this pattern. Any advice would really help.
