Breastfeeding whilst out in Leeds City Centre

Hey beautiful mamas, so we’re thinking about heading into Leeds with our new addition. It’ll be my first time out and first time breastfeeding in public as I wasn’t able to BF our son due to a retained placenta malarkey (long story). I know I can breastfeed anywhere ofc but is there anywhere in particular that maybe is more “BF friendly” or I might feel more comfortable doing it in? I don’t wana sit in a room and hide but also don’t want to feel like people are staring (not that they’ll probably care). I’m not shy or nervous or anything I just want to feel comfortable mainly (comfortable as in chair and comfortable as I’m not weird lol). I’ve read a few threads on here and people in the past have suggested cafes etc. would these be the best places? We want to go for food and maybe a glass of wine (which the MW has said is fine to do within reason - I’ll only have the one if that) but is it acceptable to BF in the restaurant? I probably know all the answers to these questions and feel like I’m fully rambling now but if any mamas can share their experience of BF in Leeds that would be great! 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

It’s more than acceptable to breastfeed anywhere you want. No one can say anything at all to you as it’s illegal to discriminate against breastfeeding, this includes restaurants owners etc.
I’ve not been in the city centre long enough to need to BF there but I have been in a Wetherspoons and multiple cafes and McDonalds. I try to find a corner booth/table if I can just cos they tend to feel comfier for me anyway and I’m not having to bare all to everyone 😂 but I also just keep in mind people are more likely to stare at a screaming baby than one content and being fed. It’s good you’re not shy or nervous! You’ll find the best places you feel most comfortable in for you x

I breastfed everywhere and anywhere, restraunts included. Hope you have a lovely day x

John Lewis has a great breastfeeding and changing area which is clean, comfortable and private

You can absolutely breastfeed in cafes and restaurants. I’ve done it lots of times. If you’re looking for a specific feeding room there’s one in the trinity centre by the toilets next to the Everyman cinema x

There are breastfeeding rooms in trinity, Victoria gate and in John Lewis. The first few times I went out I went there until I built up my confidence. If we go in somewhere else e.g a cafe or restaurant I ask for seat in the corner to help me more secure!

Trinity Kitchen have some nice slouchy chairs, Belgrave also has nice big sofas if you can get one.
John Lewis is always a treat (and an excuse to look at the baby clothes!)
I've never had an issue in Leeds but now LO is getting distracted I am tending to go to quieter places

I’ve breastfed in almost every bar/restaurant/cafe in leeds city centre - whilst having an odd pint at the same time! I’ve never been made to feel uncomfortable anywhere to be honest but John Lewis does have a lovely area with armchairs and changing facilities (4th floor I think) if you did want privacy. For comfortable - I always liked the sofas at cosy club?

Have fun mama and a well earned glass of wine 😘

thanks lovely this was a fab reply! I ended breastfeeding in a cafe in a corner and then at the dinner table in Harvey Nics lol but tbf the restaurant was really quiet and no one was around us so I felt a little more comfortable. I think its just about confidence really and not giving a shit 😂 I’ll test the waters again next week I think and see how brave I get haha xx

thanks hun! I just went for it in the end, I think I was overthinking it as always 🙄😂

that’s great advice thanks lovely, I think I’ll remember to ask for corner tables tbf as it definitely felt more comfortable sitting in a corner in the cafe we went in!

ooh yeah I forgot about trinity kitchen and belgrave! I might have to check out nice sofa places lol. Thanks lovely xx

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Our current baby bath is quite big should I try a different one? Looking for any suggestions as want her to enjoy bath time not be upset and I'm scared I'm going to make her hate it😢💗

Crying during feeding

Hey mams! My girl is 6 weeks on Monday and is having so much trouble with feeding. It doesn’t happen every feed but more often than not she will start a bottle and just start crying as if she’s in pain and she can’t take the milk. I think it’s trapped wind but I genuinely don’t know what to do it’s so pitiful to see her not be able to feed! She’s formula fed and on HiPP Organic.
Anyone else been in this position? I’m pretty sure it’s just a bit of trapped wind that she needs to fart out but can’t! If anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful as I think I may need to tape my eyelids open soon 😂
