NipT test WRONG!

Has anyone else experienced this? NipT at 14 weeks said boy but ultrasound at 22 weeks said absolutely a girl. Still waiting to hear if there was a lab mix up etc. the nipt results said they were 99.4% accurate. I can’t seem to find anyone else with the same experience. Praying baby is healthy as the scans showed everything is perfect. Id rather not go down the road of genetic testing

It doesn't happen often but it does. It didn't happen to me but a friend of mine was told she was having a girl nipt test, anatomy scan, and all ultrasounds. Came out boy. Luckily she wanted a boy but she only had all the girl stuff. My advice is to get neutral items for now. Maybe get another NIPT in case there was a mix-up

Avatar

Mine was correct, but there are instances where external genetalia don't develop as much as they "should", or don't match their internal sex organs. I would definitely get a test to make sure that wasn't happening. Can you have another NIPT?

Avatar

I wondered if this is possible. When I’ve told the ultrasound techs that we did the NIPT test and it said girl they don’t disagree so this doesn’t seem to be the case with us. I would have assumed the NIPT test to be more accurate than the ultrasound as techs can see something wrong

Avatar

I’ve heard of NIPT occasionally being wrong where someone’s been told girl and then had a boy but I’ve not heard the other way round. I do also personally know 2 couples at different hospitals told definitely girl at their ultrasound and turned out to be a boy xx

What did you end up having?

girl!

@Nae can I ask if you know which nipt test it was? Which company? Mine was Myraid and said boy so just curious!

Avatar

yours was the nipt test also? Not sneakpeak? Can I ask which company you went through, if you remember?

Avatar

yes, my NIPT said boy. Sneak peek actually said girl! Mine was through invitae.

@Jenny ok thank you 😊 I know it's awful but I'm hoping my nipt test is wrong even though I know it's rare! I have a boy already and nipt says another boy.. I have my 20wk scan on feb 6th.

Did they give you a reason for why they thought the nipt was wrong? The only thing I've seen is twins and only one made it.

Avatar

likely just a lab mix up. I understand! I was honestly hoping mine was wrong too because I really wanted a girl, I couldn't believe I was in the 0.01% of incorrect NIPT results. But I will say when there actually was doubt it was very stressful and I worried that there was something wrong with the baby.

Avatar

@Jenny right that would be scary also. I've seen a few other people with in correct results and they just redid the NIPT for them and then it was correct. So I would hope that's what they'd do for me. Although I'm sure I won't be in the .01% 😅 we wanted 2-3kids and this is our second so I was really hoping it was a girl so we can be done. I'm still on the fence for the 3rd and would be heartbroken if it's another boy. Which isn't fair to baby either 😔

Hi just picked up this post through googling! I am
Going through the same. NIPT at 10weeks + 1day said Boy. 20 week scan and a 4D scan at 26 weeks scan couldn’t determine due to positioning, had a 29 week scan and it came back girl! apparently a very clear girl with 3 people checking! I am now worrying if everything is ok with baby / placenta.

If you don’t mind me asking, did you have any post birth tests on your baby girl to make sure all was ok? Feeling very nervous and anxious at the moment!

Avatar

hiya. I am currently going through this, NIPT said boy at 10 weeks and ultrasound at 29 weeks said a clear girl (scans previous couldn’t determine due to positioning!). I feel really anxious about how I got a boy result! NIPT test clinic have redrawn my blood again to see what gender comes back as. Feeling very nervous. Did you do any post birth checks in your baby girl to make sure all was well? Thank you x

Avatar

they tested her cord blood! But it came back normal girl. Seems to have been a lab error! But I understand, I was very nervous too when it happened.

Avatar

the NIPT clinic have redrawn my bloods to see if it comes back girl to align with the latest ultrasound, praying it does! I am glad all came back well with your baby girl! Did you let them know about the discordance beforehand so they knew to check the cord etc? I haven’t spoken to my midwife yet about it, but assume that’s the next step?? Thank you for replying x

Avatar

yes I reminded the doctors ahead of time. I hope it just comes back girl for you, it would save sooooo much headache!! My Dr. said there wasn't a point in redoing the NIPT. But both of my sneak peek results came back girl.

Avatar

I’ve just redone NIPt and bloods came back boy again, but had another scan with senior consultants who are certain it’s girl! I think the next few weeks are going to be a worry 🙈🙈

Avatar

just saw this now! We didn’t do any further testing because the nipt redraw came back 100% girl. If male dna was still present they would have suggested doing amniostesis and other testing for possible issues.

Pregnant with baby 2

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia

I have a feeling like I might get attacked from this but I’m going to say it anyways. incognito 🥸 GLP1s being mainstream for regular people who are NOT diabetic or morbidly obese is bad for so many reasons 💉💉💉

Side affects, long term dependency, supply shortages and costs, regaining the weight back as soon as you get off them.. all that ASIDE how do people not see just from a zoomed out perspective how crazy it is. I can’t imagine being someone facing food insecurity in an underdeveloped country and watching westerners give themselves daily jabs so they can lose weight while still eating a calorie surplus/ crappy foods. It’s giving hunger games when district 12 Katniss finds out at the party at the capital that people eat and then take a pill to make themselves sick so they can 🤮 and eat some more. These ads running ozempic everywhere are disgusting, and then getting amazing athletes like Serena Williams to push them talking bout “i’ve never been healthier” girl you were an OLYMPIC athlete wym??

Has anyone had a planned c section and been home the same day?

Getting pregnant after c section

When did you get pregnant again after a c section? Our plan was always to have 2 under 2 but that is now out the window because I had an emergency section. I know they say 18 months and we will be sticking to it (as much as I don’t want to) but I’m curious how quickly you got pregnant after your section?

Movements

I’m 28 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I had loads and loads of movements but today I have only felt small flutters and a couple of kicks throughout the day. I get so confused as some people say they don’t have a pattern but others say they do. We have a Doppler so used it this evening and could hear the heartbeat and then moving but does anyone else get quieter days of movement than others? I am seeing my midwife tomorrow so will check but just find myself getting anxious about it and don’t know when to get checked. I know they encourage it but last time as soon as I got to triage baby started moving loads!

Movements With Second Baby

Im 17 weeks pregnant with my second baby, but I still haven’t felt any movement. I was expecting to feel it early with it being my second pregnancy, so was just wondering when other mums felt movement with their second+ pregnanices? I have a lot of anxiety this time round after this pregnancy started with twins but I lost one after everything looked to be going well, so desperate to feel some movement just for a bit of reassurance. Thanks in advance 🩷
