Hey ladies!
I have my c-section next Saturday but I want to be prepared. Any recommendations on certain oils or creams to use to help with the scar? I’m looking into purchasing silicone gel sheets too. Any recommendations would be much appreciated! 🙏

This is the advice I got from my surgeon.
- rest for good 4-6 weeks (don’t lift anything heavier than your baby and no rapid movements)
- keep up good hygiene (no bath until 6 weeks) by showering (no soap on the incision for 6 weeks) and patting the area dry
- you can use silicone tape from 8 weeks PP onwards (once the incision is fully closed)
- massage the area to avoid lumps and help muscles and soft tissues to return to normal (I’m planning to do this alongside silicone tape application)

I’ve just seen a someone for scar therapy, she said not to use bio oil as it just sits on top. She said the cheapest suitable oil for massaging in is rose hip oil. I’m 9 weeks pp, so not sure what point you should start.

I was told by my obstetrician not to invest in anything too expensive if I plan on having more children. They just reopen and cut out any keloid scaring if you develop it. So only splash out when you know you are done xxx

from what I know NHS surgeons won’t be cutting away keloid scars (not in the NHS anyway) they just cut open the same spot or elsewhere depending on your situation. But built up keloid scar tissue on top of previous one is much harder to treat based on my experience (I had many surgeries due to cancer and thicker keloids don’t budge and I’ve had treatments done to them), dermatologists told me not to let them get that thick in the first place. But I’m hoping to have VBAC next time so fingers crossed this won’t be an issue in the future. X

that’s interesting. My obstetrician does both private and nhs surgeries so maybe she does it as a favour 😂 I didn’t develop any shelf or thick scarring so maybe it’s technique but she was the one who said any keloid in the scar is removed when they do number 2 so it’s “nice and neat”.

you got lucky! Stay with her at all costs 😂. I had my surgeries done at Broomfield hospital (home of plastic surgeons apparently) and they’ve butchered it, but I’m also genetically prone to develop keloid so it is what it is I guess. X

I took arnica tablets which helped with the bruising and healing , worked a dream x

Thank you everyone!!!!!!!
