Hey, not sure if this has been something that’s come up and I’ve maybe missed it, but someone mentioned to me the other day about not having gel nails done whilst in labour just in case I have to go into theatre. Has anyone heard of this before and am I meant to not have my nails done from now on?

I think it's about dark nail varnish impacting the efficiency of those finger monitors? Xx

They advise natural nails incase of going to theatre, normal surgery would require not nail polish at all as it can mess with the equipment that checks your pulse etc

The NHS recommends that pregnant women avoid wearing any type of nail polish, including gel nail polish and acrylics, during labour and delivery. Check with your midwife, I don’t mind not having any, my do only pedicure as I am going for surgery option.

I wasnt allowed any nail varnish on my nails for my egg collection or embryo transfer…so I wouldn’t be surprised if they want you to have them natural for labour x

I had gel polish on my nails during my labour i was induced, and midwife didn't say anything she actually complimented the colour.
