Bottle warmers/ sterilizers worth it?

Currently in the process of making our registry I’m just so overwhelmed by all the gadgets and recommended items.

Were bottle sterilizers and bottle warmers necessary and/or helpful for you?

Help a girl out! 😅

Sterilisers are necessary, bottle warmers waste of cash cos u have to make a bottle with 70 degree water anyways xx

Both are definitely worth it!

We were recommended to get the baby brezza. It’s like a keurig for baby formula. It measures it out and brews it for you at the temperature you select. Their website also has a sterilizer. I’m not due until august so we haven’t used it yet but that was what we were recommended and I’ve heard great things! Good luck

Can make your own microwave steriliser by using a microwave safe dish with a lid, add some water and microwave for a few minutes.

Are you bf or using formula? We used breast milk so we used the bottle warmer a lotttt ( she got breast milk bottles every night starting a around 6 months so she would sleep longer). Also we use the sterilizer ( baby Brezza) every day. It only takes 30 minutes and can we used for bottles, pacis, teethers, sippy cups, silverware, basically most of what they need. I 10/10 recommend based on how much time it saved us. It FULLY dries everything so it’s ready to be put away immediately.

Not really. You can just use warm water for making the bottles. And quite easy to just boil bottles (hopefully glass not plastic if you can) and just not worth the extra gadgets which you’ll ultimately need for only a few months.

I love my Baby Brezza Baby bottle sterilizer

Avatar

There are microwaveable bags to sterilize if you want. Or a traditional sterilizer. But you’ll need to sterilize bottles, pumping parts, possibly toys or teethers. Boiling them is a pain in the ass. Bottle warmer can be great but maybe not as important.

Avatar

I don’t think it’s necessary but it does make life a little easier after baby arrives. I combo feed so a bottle warm helps with warming the best milk as well as ready to feed formula.

I know with Amazon’s registry you have 1 year to return the item if it is gifted. It can’t hurt to register, and you could always return if you never used it.

The warmer wasn't something I used. When I nannied some families used them and others didn't. The baby will adjust to the temp you provide the bottle at ( in most cases)
The sterilizer I also didn't use, I just boiled water and set the bottle and lids in the forna few mins and air dried them, never had a problem.

Avatar

the plan is to breast feed and supplement with formula if needed.

Thanks! I’ll look into the baby breeza.

Avatar

that’s what I was thinking! Especially since it’s something so temporary, the thought of so many gadgets kinda stressed me out lol.
But apparently a lot of the girls on here use it and like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Avatar

agreed, worse case we can always return them. Which isn’t a big deal. We plan to use Amazon too.

Avatar

we have to realize these companies create products to make money. Some work for our convenience and others are for made up needs which aren’t necessary. So you have to decide what’s what for you. I err on the side of less stuff.

Don’t bother with steriliser! Get some MAM bottles, you can sterilise them in the microwave and they’re also anti-colic! Life-saver not having to have a bulky steriliser on the kitchen side! So I’d add MAM bottles (all sizes), with teats in 0, 1 and 2, and the green & white brush to wash them ☺️

Avatar

If you're planning on BF and it's mostly nursing you won't need it. If you end up doing bottles and formula than it's always an Amazon click away but I'd wait and see.

Avatar

same girl! You should see my kitchen and house. 😂
I don’t like unnecessary things and clutter just to waste money.

Returned our bottle warmer. She’s EBF but when her dad gives her a bottle we either let it sit on the counter for a bit or just give it to her cold
We did get the baby brezza sterilizer and use it multiple times a day. Whether for bottle pump parts pacis or whatever. It’s a STAPLE in our house

Avatar

Good to know. I already have a few mam bottles from the registry boxes I was planning to try.

Avatar

I do plan to bottle feed. Esp so dad can have that experience and bonding time too. I think I’m going to keep it on my registry hidden under private for now and see if I end up buying it later.

Are they necessary, no.

Do they save time by taking the guess work out of getting the milk/ formula up to the correct temperature, or sterilizing at the press of a button.

Heck yes.

My baby finally came home yesterday. And for two busy parents who have no clue what they are doing. We use the Phillips Avent bottle warmer and sterilizer. Since we also have their bottles everything is compatible. We feel like we have more free time.

Yes! Still use them to this day and my little man is 13 months. Cuts down on time —just pop it in and go on to the next task. (I use a sterilizer that has both the sterilizing and drying feature.)

Avatar

I don’t sterilize which is interesting because I’m kind of a germ freak but good ol’ soap and hot water seem perfectly fine. We haven’t had any issues…. It’s all just extra “stuff & clutter” to me.

Avatar

I say yes to a bottle warmer but you don't really need it . It makes life easier lol

Avatar

I have both and absolutely think they are worth it. Our sterilizer can fit a good amount and it dries everything. Our bottle warmer can also sterilize if necessary but it doesn't dry. It can also keep bottles warm for a while (I've never used that feature) and it can also hold 2 bottles.

Avatar

Originally I didn’t get either. I opted out of the sterilizer because I was like I can just boil everything, no big deal. Well, my baby just turned 2 weeks old and I went out and bought the sterilizer/dryer combo. It is way more convenient than boiling! I didn’t get a warmer because I wanted my baby to eat no matter the temp and he does! He doesn’t care if his milk is cold, straight out or the boob at body temp or room temp formula. I didn’t want to deal with having to warm things up when we’re out and about so I didn’t get one!

Avatar

Use both daily. Couldn’t live without them!

Avatar

The warmer/sterilizer was very helpful in the very beginning. Once ours started sleeping through the night and his immune system wasn’t brand new, it was dishwasher and microwave for us, but it was great for the first 6 months. None of it is necessary, but anything that makes those sleepless nights even a tiny bit easier is worth it ❤️.

I also wish someone had told me about white noise and the Hatch sound machine. There are plenty of white noise apps, but something about the low glow design and being able to leave it by baby all night was a lifesaver especially through that 4 month sleep regression.

Avatar

We use both but I thought we would use the sterilizer and dryer but I honestly use it at least once a day! We got the Dr. Browns sterilizer and dryer and it's made life a lot easier when juggling bottles and pumping equipment.

Avatar

I have a water dispenser it's cheaper so it leaks but it's still quicker than a bottle warmer. I regret buying a sterilizer I rarely use it and it's effin huge.

When you had a baby and you decided to breast feed did you feel that nurses were pushing formula?

My baby is not even 2 days old and she's been nursing super well according to the lactation specialist. She was born by c section so weight loss is expected to be higher than by vaginal birth due to the fluids given. I'm booked into see my doctor for the baby and I and lactation consultant at the doctors yet this nurse won't stop asking if I want to give formula so she can pee more and gain back her weight fast.

You just changed your baby’s diaper, but realise you have to use the bathroom. Do you wash your hands..

Should I make a poll series on hand washing because I’ve been here long enough to know it’s not happening as much as it should lol

Are we just staying in bed for 12 hours a night?

Right now I’m going to bed when my baby does at 8pm and staying there until his morning wake usually around 7. Does anyone else do this? He sleeps on top of me and usually wakes up and just crawls back on me when I try to put him down. What are your tips for sneaking away?

Reducing formula feeds

I've just been told by my nursery that they wont give bottles of/and formula from 1 year one, my little boys 1 in 3 weeks.
Looking for advice on how to reduce his formula intake?
Hes loves both food and milk 🫣 I think he will drink cows milk so that's not the issue im more concerned about the fact that hes in a routine with his bottles.

Baby won’t go in pram

Hi my 9 week old hates the pram. She screams the entire time she’s in there. I’m at a loss. She’s never liked it. She will go in the baby carrier happily but is completely against the pram. Any advice
