Is anyone doing the breast pump fridge hack? I've got a cool bag next to my bed and tempted to do the hack during night feeds but not sure if it's recommended or not. And do I rinse or just place in a zip lock bag?

I think you’re supposed to rinse first. Just remember it only slows the growth of bacteria if you do it though, doesn’t stop bacteria from growing.

I put everything in a cooler bag next to the bed for night time and wash in the morning and keep in the fridge , I don’t rinse between. Did it for my first daughter for 7 months and doing it with my second with no issues.
I take the cooler bag with everything in for day trips too

thank you, I might try that. How many times did you use the pump during the night? And how many hours before the wash in the morning? Want to try it with the pump parts

With my first I pumped every 2-3 hours so several times through the night and day and just had a couple of cooler sticks in the bag and did the same during the day if we were out and about.
So say I’d wash it at 7pm and 7 am for example, I’ve not had any issues as long as it goes in, in a zip back or sandwich bag and is sealed it should be fine

thank you so much

If you’re doing fridge hack you need the actual fridge. Especially with a baby under 4 months, I’d just be so so careful of bacterial contamination. But if you’re changing more often than every 24 hours it may be okay, I’ve used the cool bag for pump parts for 8 hours at a time while traveling, and used Dapple breast pump cleaning wipes. I noticed if I went longer than that outside the fridge my son rejected the pumped milk, so if there’s a taste difference there’s likely other differences.

I'm only thinking of doing it for night feeds so would be about 2 reuses, would that be okay?

Breast milk is fine for 12 hours in a cooler bag with ice so I’m guessing that would be okay, assuming you’re starting with a clean set. The only way I’d be stricter than standard would be if you have a premie since they’re very sensitive to that stuff. Honestly my pumping journey got way better once I bought a few extra sets of flanges from MayMom because having something clean and dry when I needed to pump was a big part of the mental load!
