C-Section with a cold

Hello,

I have my elective c section this Friday. The reason we are doing a c section is because there is risk of tumours in my birth canal and we do not want baby to have to go through that if possible.

However, this weekend, my partner got a nasty cold. Sore throat, sniffles, fever the whole thing. We stayed away from each other, slept in different rooms etc but today I woke up with a really sore throat as well!

Partner is feeling better and beat the thing in about 4 days so not too bad, but I have 3 days before section.

Has anyone else been ill during their c-section? Know if the doctors will postpone or go through with it? I am 39 weeks thursday so its not like there is loads of time to wait either.

I realise I might have a cough with fresh stitches and that wont be fun but will they at least go through with the surgery?

I didn’t have a cold when I had my c section but I am *always* congested and sneezing constantly. I think it might be due to me not avoiding cows milk when I have a mild cows milk protein allergy.. anyway I had my section and literally didn’t sneeze for 3 weeks afterwards - just didn’t need to! I don’t know if it’s just me or if it’s a weird thing your body does to protect you. Good luck! X

I believe they will just go ahead, I had my C-section January last year and got covid 3 days before. They were still happy to preform the C-section with me having that, but I decided to postpone it myself because I wanted my partner there. So I would assume from my experience it wouldn’t be an issue šŸ˜…

I had a cough with my section. You’d be amazed how you can hold it in if you have to. Maybe just double check it’s not covid if you haven’t already. Best of luck x

I imagine they’ll only want to postpone if you have a fever but I could be wrong. Coughing afterwards is honestly the worst, I was sick a few times and it felt like my stitches would rip open and my insides would fall outšŸ˜‚

I was really bad with a cold and coughing, they didn't seem to concerned in fact they asked if I would like some water. After the c-section my cold was gone! I wouldn't worry they will still do it xxx

That was my greatest fear!! I didn’t even blow my nose for a week (I wasn’t sick just normal nose blowing) just sucked it right back in.
