98 percentile

I’ve just had my 32 week growth scan and found out baby boy is on the 98th percentile. I’m terrified! Aha is anyone else’s baby on the 98th percentile or had a baby on the 98th percentile? And did everything go okay with birth

The US tech measured my baby in the high 90% at 30 wks but I just really don’t think she did it right. Speaking to my midwife and how my weight and fundal height are tracking (and how my first was at birth) it seems like this baby is very average. I’ve heard the US can be off anywhere from 0.5-2 lb in either direction and technician skill can affect how accurate the reading is.

Your baby absolutely might be that big but my point is baby also might not be so I wouldn’t stress if I were you.

Also as my midwife reminded me yesterday, fat squishes. Even if baby is big you should be alright.

Good luck!

Yes! The whole way through. But deffo not accurate - at 36 weeks they measured him at nearly 9lb. Born 2 weeks later at 8lb 6oz. I wouldn’t worry - they often get it wrong and big baby doesn’t necessarily mean a more difficult birth!

My little girl was measured on 97th and estimated 8lb 13oz she ws born 4 days later at 9lb 1oz so was accurate for me. I had a forceps delivery but i dont think that was due to her size x

https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-for-induction-or-c-section-for-big-baby/

Evidence based birth has great info on “big babies”! Apparently the measurements done are so innacurate that if you are told your baby measures large there is a 50 percent chance they are actually small or normal sized. And the negative effects of being told you have a big baby are worse than the actual impacts of having a big baby. So do some reading and hopefully empower yourself with information! I would take those measurements with a grain of salt- a lot of hospitals no longer do growth measurements except in high risk patients because they are so inaccurate. My husband was an almost 12 lb baby born at home vaginally and is perfectly healthy. No complications. So it is possible to have a chill birth even if they are extra extra big.

Thanks everyone for your comments, it’s put my mind at ease somewhat as I was panicking coming out of the scan! 😂❤️

That looks exactly like our measurements. We’re having a discussion with a consultant on Wednesday to discuss a possible planned c session too :)

They told me that as well and she was 6 lbs 14oz which is pretty average. They aren’t always 100% accurate on that.

I spent a long time researching whether an induction or c section would be safest. I’m 36 and was told that would make things even more difficult have a vaginal birth with his size, and early.
When I told the consultant our decision she was relieved. She estimated 10lb at 38 weeks and 12lb at 42. She said she is more confident with her estimations with some people and felt she hadn’t got it wrong with us. Turns out she was bang on.

that’s what I was worried about as well. Thanks for your comment it’s been really helpful, do you mind me asking what size clothes your baby was in as I’m unsure what size clothing to take with me aha

When born, size 2 nappies and 0-3 month baby grows. They also went for the 0-1 month hat. We took 2 sizes of everything but the midwife said she needed the bigger option of it all.
He had severe jaundice day 3 and needed a few rounds of phototherapy which slowed his weight gain down. It took him 4 weeks to get back to birth weight. Believe it or not, he’s only in size 1 nappies now (6 weeks, 11lb 1!). His weight comes from how long he is - all limbs and no chub!
He’s outgrown 0-3 month sleep suits but can fit in the 0-3 month bodysuits. Anything with sleeves and legs needs to be bigger!

They keep telling us our boy has long limbs too so I’ll be stocking up on more 0-3 baby grows! And oh wow! Thanks again ❤️

My husband is a radiologist and says these are just estimates based on very quick measurements and are very often inaccurate. They said my baby was 80th percentile and he was 6lbs12oz at birth. Try not to worry. You got this! 💪🏻

My son was always measuring in the 99% percentile and he was induced at 37 weeks on the dot he ended up being 7lbs 8oz only thing that was 99 percentile was his legs he’s a tall boy. He is now 33 1/2 inches tall his height is off the charts. Birth was fine but everyone experiences is different on any size baby!

My baby was born at 40 weeks + 1 day via emergency c section and he was 10lbs 1oz. He’s in the 95th percentile. I had a very bad experience between hemorrhaging losing 2 liters of blood and needing a blood transfusion, uterus didn’t wanna start contracting because there were a lot of blood clots they had to go in with their hand and scoop them out. I got better over the next few days and been okay since being home. I’m 3 and half months post partum. I was also induced with pitocin for 19 hours before the c section but I couldn’t dialte past 5 cm. And my water had been broken from 24 hours at that point. If I could go back I 100% would have had a schedule c section at 38 weeks when he was 8.5lbs. I think it would have went a lot better.

Emergency scan

Hi! I went to triage on Saturday night for reduced movement as I hadn’t felt baby all day. I was checked over with Doppler etc and sent on my way - midwife said everything was great.

I’ve just been called by the hospital that I’m booked in for an emergency scan and it’s just taken me by surprise. Has anyone else experienced this?

How does everyone do it

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and have a 3 year old and I can’t even get out of bed without being sick, can’t even stand for longer than 2 minutes, my toddler is basically living on snacks as I can’t get out of bed to cook, I can’t even take him to nursery I feel terrible, I’m only 8 weeks and have so much longer to go 😭

Birth plan

Debating between natural birth vs C section.
Labour lengths, recovery times afterwards, control involved in a c section, pregnancy again after c sections.. give me your experiences/opinions. 😊
(Also, if the hospital was 1.5 hours away would that affect your decision)

Early labour?

Im really unsure if what I’m having is the start of labour or just digestive pains? I’ve been getting sharp/crampy pains across my abdomen and back which come and go every 10/15 mins, not really typical period like pains yet but they are very noticeable. I feel like it’s been getting more painful since this morning, but at the same time I’m having diarrhoea and nausea. The only difference I’ve noticed is the pain is not going away after going to the toilet or position changes. I’m going to call triage but I thought to wait and see a few more hours. BTW I’m 37 weeks
