Hi ladies! Has anyone else’s baby been measured at 90th centile or similar, I was told at my 20 week scan that he’s measuring three weeks ahead to what I am and I had a 25 week midwife appointment the other day and they confirmed this also and had talks about if continuing to appear large then planned caesarean may be necessary, I’m not concerned at all just wondering if anyone else has been through this also? Thankyouuu x

I've had two 97th+ centile babies and have been fine delivering vaginally. With my first there were some complications but that was due to him being back-to-back rather than big. I had his 9lb 9oz little brother without even a stitch in April. His position was perfect and I wasn't on my back so gravity helped a lot.
I'd listen to the medical advice of course. But generally your body won't make a baby you can't get out of you naturally unless there are issues like gestational diabetes in the mix.

At my 20 week ask I got told the same. Just waiting for my 25 week appt. To find out more but from what I’ve read this is just a precaution and women can birth big babies. Did they say you would need any extra monitoring or anything?

My baby was measuring 99th percentile since about week 23 (he was already 1lb 11oz). Induced at 39 weeks, pushed for 2 hrs, baby delivered via c-section. 10lbs 4oz
I don’t regret trying vaginally 1st.
Also I was boarder line on having gestational diabetes, which may have played a part

Yes! Mine was 90th percentile but came out only 7lbs … it’s not super accurate and they can have growth spurts at different times. My baby when he was out at 2 months was then 3rd percentile but now he’s in the 50th percentile 3 weeks later.. take it with a pinch of salt

no no they told me not to worry or do anything different they will monitor the baby’s size through scans and this may include a few extra scans in the future before delivery xx

🙋🏽♀️ found out on Thursday (28 week scan) mine is measuring at the 96th centile xx

I was >99% the entire pregnancy starting right at 11-week ultrasound. She ended up being right on time and 9 lbs. Her head is still 99% even at 1 year old now. I only needed a c-section as I was in labor for 39 hrs and just not dilating and she didn't like the contraction meds.

It is not medically necessary to have a c section just because of a big baby

Yeah they convinced me of that too with my first and I didn’t do any research or no anything so I went with it and I very much regret it now cod it was not medically necessary at all my baby was 9 pounds.

Sorry, you asked if anyone else had been this through it 😂 u are asking for opinions
I have been through it 😂😂 and I’m telling you don’t ask questions if you are going to go ahead with it already.

I had a c section for my 1st baby after he turned transverse at 39 weeks, so c section for his safety. He was born on the 82nd centile. Scans were all pretty accurate. I am now 34 weeks and his brother and he is measuring on 90th centile. Has been for a while. I am wanting a vbac. But have been told if he goes above 97th centile on 37 week scan they will advise on me having a c-section. Doctors will only advise a c section if they think it is necessary.

Vaginally gave birth to my 9lb10oz boy and got a 4th degree tear and lost 1500ml blood, I wish someone told me there was an option or bigger babies not that I would have chosen a section but I wasn’t offered at all. Pregnant with second and still unsure of what to do but will wait untill at least 36 weeks to make the call I think. Do all the research yourself but only you can make that call!

yes absolutely, I honestly don’t mind having natural or caesarean whichever is needed at birth🤞🏼

I am really happy I got to experience a vaginal delivery though even though on paper it was traumatic it felt far from it, make sure you’re doing your perineum messages and pelvic floor exercises 😝 can mean the difference in tearing x

oh really!! Thankyou so much!!!❤️

I pushed out a 8.5lbs baby vaginally with epidural after 4 days of inducing the labour. They nearly sent me for a c section after dilating 9cms because of complications. Lost 2250ml blood, got major haemorrhoids and the episiotomy wound got infected after two weeks and I ended up on painkillers and antibiotics for whole of one month postpartum. It took me a lot of time to heal physically and mentally. Retrospectively, given a choice I would go for a c section and save myself a lot of trauma. At least I would know what I was getting into.
Best wishes for safe delivery xx

oh wow you did amazing!! And thankyou for sharing your story and thankyou for the wishes!❤️

Both of my babies were over 9lbs and came out vaginally just fine (first was hospital birth second was home birth both drug free). Many women say bigger babies are easier to birth as gravity has more to pull on. There’s a great podcast episode about big babies here, it’s by two midwives and has loads of great info so you can make an informed decision : https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-great-birth-rebellion/id1639430316?i=1000605957509

My first was 9lb an birthed him with no pain relief I did end up with a 3rd degree tear giving birth to him was far easier than my smallest who was 5lb15 at 36 weeks with her it felt more like i needed to poop an she took for ever to arrive felt like she was stuck in the birth canal

oh Thankyou so much!

oooo gosh that sounds painful!

I was told this the whole way through my pregnancy. I was tested for GD twice - I never had it. I was scheduled in for 40 weeks to be induced, however due to movement issues my induction was moved to 39 weeks. It ended up in a c section and she was 8.5.

Mine was 96% and baby born with 9.5 pounds with planned C-section. Now she is 3 months with a size of a 7mo bb. No GD at all.

My first 2 were measuring below 10th centile, currently 33 weeks baby was last on 16th and possibly dropped to 15th, was told by a few consultant and midwife anything between 10-90 is classed as average below or above is a concern. As far as bigger babies go through I know a few people who have had bigger babies vaginally and said they easier thsn small babies to deliver, when I had my second the lady in the bed facing said she had a planned c section as her previous 2 were both over 9-10lb and had issues with delivery

yes this is what my midwife was saying, that’s why we had to talk about a potential c section incase of emergency of not being able to deliver naturally!

My son was 10lbs 4oz, I wanted natural but they wanted to induce me at 38 weeks, I’m quite heavily against induction so refused and opted for c-section on his due date. I say trust your instincts the further along you get. The consultant came to me afterwards and made a point of telling me it was the right choice as he was so big I would have had a problem birthing naturally. All in all I’m extremely happy it was a relaxed birth story. I would recommend having a birth plan for both options just in case.

Thankyou so much hun 😘

My baby was 9 lbs 7 oz. They told me a few weeks ahead that a c-section may be necessary as her scans were showing wide shoulders. I got to 8cm dilated and the doc said my pelvic inlet was narrow, baby would likely get stuck and or break her collarbone coming out. So rather than risking her getting stuck and going into an emergency c-section, or her coming out with a break that would take weeks to heal, I opted for the c-section. Quick and easy, recovery wasn’t bad at all - did need my husbands help for the first week or so with getting to a sitting or standing position.

oh wow yes that sounds like a definite must for a c section! Thankyou for sharing❤️

My boy was in the 99th my entire pregnancy and I delivered a 12 pounder vaginally. Our bodies are amazing! You got this mama💪🏼 whatever you decide will be the right choice for you and your baby🫶🏼

My baby was always measuring big even before I had GD, I remember the tech asking me if I gave the right dates of my last period dates which I found funny, then at my last appointment they told me my baby was in the 99th centile and that he was weighing 9 pounds, I decided to get a c section because I believed it was the best choice for my baby and I, when my son was born he was very big and weighed 9 pounds and 4oz, he is currently 4 months and is still measuring big for his age
Btw I’m 5’6 and his dad is 6’5

My baby was measuring big the whole time. My diabetes test was negative. Had a scan at 37 weeks and he was measuring 42 weeks (9lb 4oz) 🤣 he was well over the charts. The doctor wanted to induce me asap but I had an awful induction with my first so asked for a c section. Had a planned c section at 39 weeks and baby was 9lb 11oz. The doctor didn't really seem concerned as he said the scans aren't accurate at all but wanted me to be induced in case baby got any bigger and risks of baby getting stuck ect. X

My baby was 97th centile and I had a vaginal delivery 👶🤱

Just so you are aware my baby measures 3 weeks ahead the entirety of my pregnancy (I’m type one diabetic) I was induced at 38weeks and she was born at 38+4 a teeny 6lb 11 and on 25th percentile. Remember scans and fundal measurements aren’t 100% accurate x

Thankyou for sharing, this is literally just what my midwife and gp have said to me, I have medical complications also in this pregnancy so they are advising on individuality, this post is just simply to relate and not feel alone xx

it can be horrible, I was classed as ‘high risk’ and all they did was terrify me all throughout my pregnancy and it made it so hard and made me not enjoy it x

aw I’m so sorry to hear that! My midwife is actually really terrible and doesn’t actually tell me important information unless I push to ask for it xx
