Gestational diabetes

Currently 20+3 and have been diagnosed with GD for about 4 weeks now. Is it awful that I’m getting seriously fed up with being pregnant right now? I feel as though this entire pregnancy so far (major blessing that it is too can I add) has been so difficult as we’ve encountered so many issues (HG, blood disorder, pre eclampsia risk, gestational diabetes +) that my hope of anything normal and stress free is just gone. And my usual way of comfort is food and being so restricted is making me miserable. Most women get diagnosed later in pregnancy and have had the best part of their second trimester to eat what they want and I’ve gone from severe morning sickness eating nothing to now being so restricted because I don’t want further complications that cravings etc are killing me because I can’t have them 🥺 just wondered if anyone could empathise and offer any suggestions for treats that won’t affect the GD to tide me over? Like seriously all I want is a big bowl of chips with gravy and a slice of cake 🙈

How did your doctor come to the conclusion you have GD?

I'm sorry you're going through this

It’s not awful you feel that way. Pregnancy is hard. But it’ll be over before you know it and you’ll have your baby to cuddle. GD is all about balancing your carbs with a protein, so my treat was Granny Smith apple slices with peanut butter. I ate a lot of peanut butter tbh 😂 Make sure you take a walk or do light exercise after eating. Even just ten minutes, that can lower your readings by a whole point!

@Lani I have PCOS so they wanted me to do an early glucose test. Was diagnosed just before 16 weeks

Cheese!!

I’ve been fed up since I was about 12 weeks and I haven’t had any serious complications so I can’t imagine how you feel!!!! But don’t feel awful about feeling that way, not everyone enjoys being pregnant. So many women say they loved it and they adore being pregnant and even though it is such a blessing I hate it!!! And lots of others do too! So you’re not alone. I wish I could be of more help xx

There are lots you can have so don’t worry! Halo Top or Oppo ice cream (choc brownie and cookie dough areso good) I put double cream on it and it keeps my blood low. Nairns choc chip biscuits with double cream. I can also tolerate a freddo or half a kinder bueno if I have some protein (normally babybel) before hand. Strawberries and cream is always a good shout just avoid Elmlea. Sugar free jelly/reduced sugar angel delight with some nuts or flax seed.

I get lots of idea of the gestational diabetes UK Facebook group.

I feel you Hun, I started having preterm labour at 18 weeks, irritable uterus, then bleeding a couple weeks later, non stop tightenings since then and I'm due tomorrow. Diagnosed GD at 28 weeks, baby had a couple of incidences of high HR, now I'm being induced as we speak thanks to those. But I found that there were certain foods and drinks that would set off my GD and others that didn't. So I can't have certain non alc ciders, or BBQ chicken pizza or too much potato. But meat lovers pizza, nuggies with gravy etc doesn't impact my sugar levels. Just test certain foods and see what you can and can't eat, you'll find foods that are perfectly fine for you that make you feel like you're being naughty :)

I had GD in pregnancy, I was told to line my stomach before I ate something that I know would impact my numbers, such as if was having pizza eat salad beforehand I was told this by dietecian, and it worked just test certain foods as people are all different to what they can tolerate, you can have chocolate such as milk buttons or a fredo, crisps like quavers etc a couple of malted milk biscuits it is hard but it's worth it in end x

@kelly same I was induced at 38 weeks and she was 7lb 1oz I was on insulin towards end my friend who never had GD had a 9lb 4oz baby 🤦
