I need some advice, i’m pretty new to the whole universal credit and then systems i’m trying to get on the waiting list aswell for a house for me and my baby but i applied for universal credit when i was about 5/6 weeks pregnant (18 weeks now) and they told me i was doing too many hours to be eligible (30-35 hours a week) my work have now put me on about 1 shift a week that’s only about 5 hours long and i can’t provide for my child on this wage, will i be eligible for universal credit?

Apply again, you’ll be able to use UC as a top up if you’re only working a few hours per week or it changes each week etc. just be aware they will expect you to look for more hours/more work even though you’re pregnant x
yeah i’ve been looking for more work for a while it’s just so hard to get anything where i am! x

They’ll help you! But definitely apply again now that you’re not working full time! X
okay i definitely will i just need some help to buy for baby x

You can then look into the maternity grant if you’re on UC or other benefits have a look on the gov website! X
yeah that’s what i was hoping i could do! x

Good luck with everything xx
thankyou xxxxx

Seem like they assessed you on a standard allowance. Which yes, you will not be eligible due to the hours your working. Once baby arrives and you have a house to rent you will be entitled to tax credits and housing element and the standard allowance once on maternity
