As a community midwife I just want to reassure you that it’s probably not that the midwife is ignoring you but we don’t always have our phones on. We don’t all work full time and we definitely don’t turn our phones on if we’re on annual leave (highly possible given it’s the end of the school holidays) or if we’re off sick. If it’s a question you think a midwife needs answering your best off calling triage. They’re not just there for emergencies they’re there for advice and support too. Alternatively you can phone the hospital and speak to the ward you were discharged from as they may be able to help you

I would just use water and cotton balls to clean the incision, I use to stand in the shower and just use the shower head to throughly clean my incision, twice a day. Pay it dry, if the fluid doesn’t clear up by Monday, then give your GP a ring, as they can have a look and rule out infection. Very important to keep it clean and dry, I used to wear maternity pads inside of my knickers to protect it and that will also soak up anything leaking from there x

Also im still losing clots and the bloods stringy it comes and goes but its only when i pee there is barely anything on my pads

I completely understand this, I’m 7 months PP from a C Section and I also struggled with this, I did find it easier to have a small bath and just let the wound wash itself in the bath, don’t add anything other than water to the wound and try not to touch / rub it with anything and just gently pat it dry after.
Clots are totally fine, I bled for 4 weeks after my CS and I lost clots for about 2/3 of those weeks and mine was mostly when peeing, if they get any bigger than a golf ball then it’ll be worth reaching out to your doctor x

, I had an emergency C-section aswell, was the same giving pain killers and off I went. I bled for about 7 weeks after, clots was fine unless they was bigger than a 50p and going through pads with in an hour. I recommend a small bath and just splash water over scar but make sure you pat it dry! (I couldn’t shower as I didn’t have the strength to hold myself up, if you have baby blues maybe leave door open and bath when someone else is in house to keep an eye, that’s what I had to do. Have the midwives stop coming? (Am unsure how many times you get them, I only got 3 home visits and then I had to phone for a health visitor) you can always ask them to check your scar, I did. If you need any advice or even just a chat feel free to message.

Also, I did get told of my midwives and health visitors up near scotland they aren’t aloud to reply to text messages anymore. so unsure if that’s any help to why they might not reply. Xxxx

i think im just scared of it hurting and with being so blue i just dont have it in me to do it,, my family are pushing me to recover faster but it just makes me feel even worse,, thank you for ur advice 🩵

If you haven’t been discharged you can still go to day assessment unit thing it doesn’t harm to call your gp or triage

Avatar

I get you! It takes time for it to heel. You can’t be rushed! The trauma your body went through let alone your mind. And bruising is good means it’s healing. But your midwives are always there if your worried go get it checked! Xx

I had an emergency section aswell. When I got home I couldn't get in the shower so I used cotton pads with plain water to clean my incision line and then patted it dry. I had 3 visits from the midwife then day 10 was handed over to health visitor. On day 10 my midwife wasn't happy with the swelling at my incision line and sent me to triage and while I was there they told me if I had any leakage then to go back as they can then take swabs and check for infection. I would definitely give triage a call and not leave it until Monday x

Have you tried calling mamas line? And i also was just told to wash mine with water and dab it dry xxx

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way šŸ˜‚ arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
