Unless I go into labour naturally over the next few days I will be induced at 42+3. I’ve been told I can choose pessary or balloon to dilate me however I want to know the best one. Consultant says balloon is less risk. Any advice or experience?

How far gone are you now?
almost 42

Pessary did not work for me and made me very sore down there!

That’s good they’ve given you 3 days I guess. I have just got 42 today and they tried to induce. I was hoping for baby to come of it’s own accord. I will attend tomorrow for monitoring but it’s likely they will try to keep me to be induced then
not necessarily. It’s up to you. They said I don’t need to be induced, it’s reccomened but ultimately my choice. They didn’t give me 3 extra days I said I’m taking 3 extra days xx
oh bless you. After the pessary what did they do then? Xx

Yeah you have to be insistent on it. Have they offered you extra monitoring or scans?

I was induced at 39+3 and had the pessary twice which got me to 3 cm then they tried the balloon but the pessary made me so sore that the insertion of the balloon made me scream! It was more painful than the actual birth. I made them take it out straight away and I dilated naturally overnight after having the pessary. So from my experience, although it makes everything super tender and sore, I would chose the pessary over the balloon xx
yeah they said they will do daily monitoring instead xx

The gel which worked within hours! X

I felt the exact same with the pessary! Made me so dry and uncomfortable 😩 couldn’t bare vaginal examinations after that so I had to opt for the epidural ☹️ x
