Declining cervical exams and being admitted

Hi ladies. This question is preemptive, no signs of labor just yet 😅. But what do they do if you refuse cervical checks at the hospital? I have no intent of getting them but my only concern is I keep seeing people mention they won’t keep you unless you’re at least 5 cm dilated. So what if I get sent home and the baby is on its way out?

I’m sorry I’m not sure? I’m having a c section so I’m no help. But I just wondering.. why would you refuse the cervical exam?

Avatar

because it doesn’t actually tell you anything about labor. For example, just because I’m 2 cm dilated today doesn’t mean I won’t be 10 within a few hours. Or just because I’m 8 cm doesn’t mean I’ll be 10 cm anytime soon. Labor is mental and cervical exams cause more stress and pressure on mom. And there’s a very increased risk of infection from getting cervical exams.

In my experience from having two previous childbirths, it’s kind of a necessity for them to Atleast check while your in triage to see if you should be admitted. You can refuse all further checks .

I’ve heard more progressive hospitals will go off your symptoms for admission if you decline, like how hard it is for you to walk and talk. I mean they can’t force you to do it anywhere but some are more understanding about it

Why would you refuse it?

I answered this above.

Mine said they’ll only do one if your water hasn’t broken so they need to make sure you’re at least 4cm. I’m trying to avoid one as well especially because I’m gbs positive and I don’t want to risk any increase of a possible infection.

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
