Or am I just sensitive? My 2 year olds tantrums have amped up over the last month. I’m wondering if she has low iron bc she also is having sleep issues. Her multi vitamin doesn’t have iron in it so I’ll be looking for another. She’s an extremely picky eater. Pediatrician was not helpful. She doesn’t think it’s autism 🤷🏻♀️ Like she sounds demonic in her tantrums sometimes….it breaks my heart. Triggers are all different but mostly happens right after waking up….she’s not very expressive with words/sentences yet so I’m having a hard time figuring out what’s going on. How can I be stronger in the face of these tantrums? send help

Mine is pretty much the same. she's 2.5 years soon and she's very vocal. usually wakes up in a sour mood. and i am almost scared as to not upset hwr every morning! it's also because she has stopped napping in the daycare, so shes not getting her full sleep. it's very hard. sometimes husband takes over, sometimes i let it pass, let her have her full blown tantrum, sometimes i distract. hugs to you ❤️

she's not a picky eater but her intake has dropped a lot. she refuses to sit on her booster seat, has to eat on her table and chair. and walks off after a few bites

Glad I am not alone . My HV says it’s a way of them expressing themselves especially since they are not yet vocal , they communicate moods that way and sometimes get frustrated when they are not understood. What I do which helps sometimes is to offer a distraction

She should be verbal by two, I would request an evaluation my son is on the spectrum. I use transitions with times, clear rules set only three at a time expectations help them feel safe, strategies that let them know order of steps: first we are going to wash our hands, we I’ll then eat, after we will have playtime. Following routines also helps; always take off shoes at door, then wash hands then…? Give them tasks to help. I took a parenting course and found a lot of help there. When they have the tantrum acknowledge; say I’m sorry this upsets you mom is here with you do you need a hand, okay you don’t I’m still here. Never leave them alone. Sometimes also moving them to another location helps. If they are hurting themselves or you hold their arms and say I’m not going to allow you to hurt yourself or mom.

Most likely she’s just tired and mad when she wakes up. Mine gets that way too. As long as she’s 2 or older you can call the county school board and they will do a screening to see if she needs some extra help. Hope this helps!

I agree with Bianca. My son is autistic & at the age your daughter is at , she should be saying some words. I would contact a developmental doctor near you & get him evaluated ASAP

Should be verbal by two? Wow no they shouldn't. The majority are yes but it doesn't mean all are. My son was mute untiln

Could you work in some baby sign? Not being verbal yet could really escalate a tantrum. My brother didn’t talk until 3 1/2 with extensive speech therapy, and unsurprisingly had worse tantrums than any of us.
Regulate your own nervous system as much as you can. Drink something very cold through the thinnest straw you have, wear Loop earplugs to muffle the sound, eat crunchy foods or hard to chew stuff like dried mango.

what time are naps? my son had horrible 2hr tantrums after naps and we discovered that he is very sensitive to changes in his schedule and if he slept past 3 his tantrums were the worst

Hi @Chelsea. Sorry you’re struggling with this. Before I can help you, I would like to know how you react when she throws a tantrum?

Omg thanks everyone this is all super helpful! I should clarify that she does say words, and more everyday, but she is on the lower end of things compared to some of her peers. But She’s learning two languages at once which is why the Dr isn’t concerned. All this feedback super helpful especially the nervous system regulation!! I need some loop earplugs!

I stay calm on the outside but am dying on the inside! I try to say “your mad I get that, I’m here for you” but when the tantrums are so bad she won’t let me speak I just sit nearish to her (unless thats triggering and she wants me further lol). I try gentle parenting as much as I can but then when it’s all over sometimes I can’t help but cry like my nervous system is totally unloading after all the stress. I’m definitely going to try those hacks above though with ice cold and crucnchy/chewy!

there’s a great instagram account called steadyparents where I got a lot of the tips I use!

Update: since starting iron supplements things are much better. Now it’s just normal level tantrums I think 🤷🏻♀️ still gonna use all those tips tho 🙏
