I haven’t been formally diagnosed with GD - I have PCOS and had sugar in my urine so they just asked me to continue taking the Metformin throughout pregnancy and do the blood glucose test 4 times a day. They said no point in doing the GTT as it would be harmful to me. I have growth scans booked in too. So far my test readings have been ok - I’ve learnt what I can eat but it’s clear that if I wasn’t watching my diet, my blood sugars would be really high.
I just wondered how all of this will affect me giving birth and I’m worried about whether it will harm our baby. Things I’ve read talk about them needing to be monitored for 24 hours to check on their blood sugar and I’m just so worried she’s going to be poorly because of me.

My baby had low blood sugars after birth, but they gave her glucose syrup and they picked up well. She's 5 months now and a happy healthy kid.
Diabetes meant I needed induction, as the placenta is affected and can stop working. I was induced at 38 weeks. I had a few low blood sugars, particularly in labour as you're not allowed to eat.

There are plenty of postive GD birth stories on there

I was induced at 38.4 for high fluid and big baby. Give birth no pain relief tho and baby was fine, no issues with her blood sugars and I was on metformin and insulin and had some high readings

I was supposed to be induced at 39 weeks but my waters went a week earlier birth ended up in an emergency section but nothing to do with the diabetes baby failed her first 2 sugars but passed the others and was giving her my colostrum through a syringe x

I have PCOS and had the GTT with very high readings in my 3rd trimester. Baby was fine, bloods were normal but she measured small the whole way through and I have low fluid. They don’t know if it was related to GD as usually GD babies are bigger if sugars are not controlled.
I was on insulin before every meal and at bedtime! Induced at 37weeks due to worries about baby ( who was perfect and bigger than predicted at 5lb 8oz)
I had the loveliest labour as well. All very quick, so deffo not impacted by GD ☺️
