Exclusively expressing

Due to the first few days of extremely poor latch and a tongue tie that won’t be sorted for another 12 days, I have had to stop breastfeeding and have started expressing instead. Is it naive to think he may go back to the breast in a couple of weeks once the tie is fixed? Currently all baby’s milk is breast milk so my supply should stay up. Or has anyone else just exclusively expressed for the long haul?

Hi, I was in the exact same situation, baby had a severe tongue tie and couldn't latch at all, I had to put her on bottles before leaving hospital. Within a couple of days I was able to express enough for her so she hasn't had formula since. I got her tongue tie done privately on day 3, but unfortunately although she can latch with some help from me she does prefer the bottle. I breastfeed as much as possible but am still expressing and giving bottles both due to her preference and to make sure she gets enough as she's not back at birth weight yet (she's 17 days). I'm hoping it will just get better over the next couple of weeks. Expressing is hard so well done for keeping up with it! I hope it all goes well once your little one has their tongue tie snipped, perseverance is key! X

Hey, I struggled with latch when my little boy was born, exclusively pumped since we got home from hospital at 2 days old, had some help from the midwives and breastfeeding team and they showed us how to pace feed with a bottle this teaches them to work for their milk and has helped him latch when he needs a top up between bottles, would definitely say its possible, have a look at paced feeding :-) xx

Same situation as you but baby is now 3 weeks old and we've just had his tongue tie sorted yesterday so early days. I've been able to get him latched and feeding with nipple shields before the snip, so my plan is to keep up with that this week and hopefully wean him off them (I think you do this by starting a feed on the shield and then when milk is flowing and nipple ready, whip it off...)

Ah thank you for your responses! I wish I could get the tongue tie sorted privately but just can’t afford it😩
I am so hoping I can get him back on the breast after a couple of weeks of bottles, I have tried him the odd time at the end of a bottle feed just so he isn’t frustrated and a bit more relaxed but it’s still just causing pain in my nipples from poor latch! Such a nightmare 😩

Definitely do pace feeding with the bottle which can help him (potentially) learn to latch better after the TT procedure is done. Good luck! Xx

Standing???

Anyone else’s 7 month old standing up and trying to take steps??? My son can fully stand without support and is now trying to take steps. I feel like it’s too early?…

Excuse the mess, I’m doing a late night deep clean and he’s doing the opposite of helping 😂

How much does your baby eat

Hello,

How much does your baby eat?

My boy is 4 months (17 + 5 weeks) and he weights 7kg (born 3.5kg)
Sometimes I have feeling he is eating too much…
From yesterday I had to start giving him more food as he started crying after food and asking for more. (100% formula)
He eats around 1.3L in 24 hours (6 feeds with 5 being during the day and 1 overnight) . On internet it says baby can eat 150-200ml per 1kg body weight so in theory my baby can eat max 1.4L so it would tell me he is not eating too much… just on higher end.
Then on internet it says baby shouldn’t eat more than 32oz (900ml) in 24 hours. So I’m a bit confused…

Cheap Car Seat

Hi all,

I need a cheap car seat for my mums car just for when she looks after my daughter incase she needs to pop out.

I ain’t particularly concerned over safety because it’s literally for emergencies only, as she plans everything around childcare - but I need something just incase she needs to go out.

Ideally looking for something under £80 - my daughters nearly 2 x

Not sleeping (i need help!)

I’m desperate! My 7 month old has been a terrible sleeper for a while but seems to be getting worse, he’s sleeping every 2/3hours throughout the night then taking over an hour to get back to sleep and I’ve tried everything to help him sleep longer throughout the night, I’ve extended his wake windows, offered him extra ounces of formula before sleep, we have a white noise machine, I’ve tried patting him, rocking him and even tried to techniques to help him self sooth and I even try co sleeping and nothing seems to be working that helps him sleep longer😩 And I’m starting to really struggle mental health wise as I’m not sleeping due to the constant wake ups! I need help I’m desperate 😩

Sleep struggle 5 month old

Hi, my baby is 5 months old and I’m really struggling with his sleep.
I understand that waking for feeds is normal, but he wakes up almost every hour. He usually goes to sleep around 8:00–9:00 pm and gives one longer stretch of about 2 hours. After that, the wake-ups become very frequent. For example, if he wakes around 1:00 am, he then starts waking every 1 to 1.5 hours.
Most of the time, he doesn’t even feed properly he just keeps the nipple in his mouth for comfort and falls back asleep.
I’m feeling extremely exhausted and sleep deprived. He is exclusively breastfed and does not accept a bottle at all.
I’m not sure how to manage this situation or how to break this pattern. Any advice would really help.
