I wouldn't the advise is nothing in there for safety reasons maybe give him a toy when he wakes up?

It's less the toy thats the issue and more how it's secured that's the problem.

I did think it was how it's secured. It's only a matchstick monkey so not big. I'll obviously be awake when he's got it but I do doze on and off until he's fully asleep😅

Yes but it's when you're asleep that's the problem. If you want to fully follow safe sleep it shouldnt be in there as it carries risks. So personally I wouldn't attach anything but it's your baby and your family's decision
