I’m feeling so so stressed about my 4m old daughters poos. The health visitor keeps saying it’s normal but I’m confused and just stressed because I don’t think they are?
She’s having khaki green poos? She’s exclusively breastfed.
Any advice? Do I just take her to the GP

I have heard that green is within the normal colour spectrum for poo! But I also saw a breastfeeding specialist who told me that green poo can mean that your baby is getting too much foremilk. What’s your breastfeeding like, how long do you feed from each boob and do you offer both boobs at every feed?
For me my baby had green poos when I had a slight oversupply earlier on when my milk was still balancing. But I imagine that the reason is different for everyone
It’s not a massive worry though it’s just a slight imbalance in the type of milk, but both are nourishing and baby is still getting fed so please don’t be up worrying about it!
Do you have any breastfeeding specialists you could see? I paid to see a IBCLC lactation consultant and it was the best £75 I’ve ever spent! They know loads more than health visitors

Here’s some info that better describes it. There can be other reasons for green poo which this article explains https://llli.org/breastfeeding-info/foremilk-and-hindmilk/

Take a photo of it next time & send it to ‘themilkrebel’ on Instagram, poo guru & IBCLC.
thanks so much for your help! I’m going to look into the private specialist as I’m on the brink of stopping breastfeeding which I honestly really don’t want to do.
Thanks again! I really appreciate that. The health visitor and “specialists” I’ve seen so far have been incredibly unhelpful and unknowledgeable as they always say “please just go and see GP” which takes my confidence away in them.
So thank you xxx

I completely understand the frustration, my health visitor and GP were also rubbish when I raised my breastfeeding issues. I also love that you wrote “specialists” in quotation marks as I really feel that 🤣. Opinions even vary between IBCLCs (hence the book chapter quoted) but they can at least give you things to try, and they’re a better source of info than other health care professionals. I found my IBCLC much better than the nhs “specialist
For me sticking to one boob a little longer did work to return to yellow poos, but the supply of your breaks milk is a delicate balance so for others this might not be the right step. So I’d definitely recommend looking for an IBCLC and not just doing what worked for me
Local breastfeeding Facebook groups can be a good way of finding someone local to you. If you’re stuck finding someone, I saw someone called Alice Lucken (business name baby et al), she’s based in Hereford but does online consultations. Let me know if you’d like me to link you

Just thought of something else too, but I can’t find the link to where I read it (it was on La Leche league so a reliable source of info).
As Tanya’s book excerpt mentioned, it’s now thought that its more complicated than just feeding your baby for longer on one boob. But the book also says that the fatty modules can stick to the sides of the breasts for longer and so take longer to reach the baby
So I’ve seen advice that is to massage/shake the breast before feeding to help more fatty modules to come sooner. This is probably a less risky thing to try in terms of supply too. (As feeding from one boob for longer has potential to upset supply)
But as the book says it’s also not something to obsess over as milk is nourishing no matter what 😊

My babys poo is often green. I wouldn't say its anything to worry about and definitely not worthy of stopping breast feeding for! Unless there's other reasons you want to do so x

How long has it been going in for? It can happen in warmer weather
