38 weeks tomorrow and had my first cervix check today I’m not dilated at all and the cervix check was miserable/painful and honestly made me really upset. Any one else feel similarly? I felt violated and in pain and my dr joked and said well that’s where the baby is coming out so you better get that epidural. I see everyone saying they are ready to have their baby but this just made me more scared to have baby.

Don’t be scared just think of it this way
“if all these other mothers can do it so can I” we are very strong don’t be scared !
I do recommend the epidural because it is very painful giving birth this is my first but I’ve heard how painful it is I’m definitely getting the epidural too I also my cervix checked at 37 weeks it was definitely painful and caused my vag to hurt after but you got this you’re strong ! I’m 39 weeks tomorrow awaiting my baby ❤️🙏🏼

Well the cervical check is not fun especially if it's ur first baby and doubly so if you're not dilated. Do not let that doctor take your peace. I decline cervical checks until I'm already in labor now aka medically necessary.
I know labor is a scary prospect but if you trust your birth team and support people and your body and mind you will do incredibly! It is hard and exhausting but the most incredible thing you will have ever done! No matter what happens you can do it!
This is my 3rd and final baby(will be 2nd home birth) and I'm currently in early labor waiting for things to kick into overdrive whenever he thinks he is ready. It is normal to be nervous but honestly your mind is your greatest weapon in labor. You've got this because we are made for this ❤️

That dr was very disrespectful!
I opted for no cervical checks unless I’m in triage or already in full labor this time. They’re just bring a lot of anxiety and it doesn’t matter how far or not you are, as your body can take days or few hours to fully dilate.
I’m sorry you were left with such a bad feeling and horrible experience.

He sounds like he didn't warn you or tell you what was going to happen and how to prepare yourself. My ob said to push my butt towards/into the table but relax as best as possible. Lots of pressure but not really pain. I elected to do it cause of the constant Braxton hicks I'd been having.
