My baby is breech at 37 weeks. I have been offered a ECV to turn baby but don’t know what to do. Has anyone any experience with this and is this a better option than a section?

I had one a week ago which turned my baby successfully from transverse breech. Prior to ecv I did the hot and cold breech trick which is on Google and it moved my baby from feet first to transverse which helped my ecv! I did react to the relaxant injection due to side effects and almost passed out but I’d do it all again in heart beat xxx

I have my ECV in the morning so I can update you then :) from what I’ve read it’s still a safer option than c section xx

I had an unsuccessful ECV last week but am so glad that I tried anyway because I've found it easier to accept planned c section now knowing that I've tried all I can from my side! 🧡
thanks for that I’m glad it was successful for you xx
good luck for tomorrow! 😊 xx
thank you xx

My ECV was unsuccessful as baby has already lodged her bottom into my pelvis so there was no movement. The nurse said it probably didn’t help that she had been like that since 28 weeks at every scan and has never moved. I didn’t have the relaxant injection as I have an irregular heartbeat and the nurse said it can help but not essential so I just thought I’d try without. She said it wouldn’t have helped in this case. It was ‘uncomfortable’ as described but not painful just relax and focus on something. Can’t see a reason why anyone wouldn’t try it, it’s really not an issue to give it a go and at least you know you tried. I’d recommend 😊 xx
thank you for the update x

I had an attempted ECV this afternoon. Unfortunately I nearly fainted so they didn’t get very far. They think the near faint was because I’ve been suffering from HG all pregnancy and it’s been particularly bad the past couple of days with the heat. I’ve been invited to try again next week if a slot becomes available and I’m feeling better.
Feeling wise, I would agree uncomfortable but not painful. The dr pushed fairly hard low down, but they’ve done similar before to check positioning, so like that but for a longer time. This was to get baby’s bum out of the pelvis. As a result baby’s head moved up higher and it was the pressure of this pushing that was more uncomfortable but again still not really painful. I would have continued but the drs called it, they had been debating whether they could even start previously due to my sickness, so mostly I’m frustrated as now it’s highly likely c-section for me.
But essentially worth a try, not totally pleasant but not as bad as I’d imagined.
thank you x

Hi all,
Just to see if anyone else has since had their ECV and it’s been successful?
