Sleeping positions.

Does anyone else's baby sleep like this? Bum in the air? I always put her to sleep on her back but she ends up tossing and turning until she's on her stomach 😒

My three year old still does this sometimes and it's the cutest thing. Reminds me of him as a baby 🥹

@Caroline I used to worry that she wouldn't be able to breathe but she always puts her head to the side thankfully. Her little feet make me giggle when she's laid like that 💕

Avatar

generally if they keep putting themselves in that position then it's ok. I know the anxiety though!! I think it's comfy for them as it reminds them of being in the womb. It's also great for releasing wind!

Avatar

My little girl has done it since around 3 months old still does it now it’s so cute ☺️

Avatar

@Caroline the anxiety is awful isn't it, she definitely looks comfy, and has been known to let out some very loud wind 🤣x

Avatar

@clara yeah she's 3 months next week, she's been doing it just over a week now x

Avatar

Yes her new position ha

Avatar

Yes, and not even with her face to the side, literally the whole face will be down on the mattress. It stresses me out, and then I end up waking her as I try to put her back on her back 🥲

Avatar

My little girls still does it as a well she's nearly 2 I also use to panic but as long shes breathing fine shell be fine ,I guess it's comfortable for them 😊x

Avatar

she did do that before and face plant the mattress, gave me major anxiety! She does turn her head now thankfully so I don't worry as much x

Avatar

Yep

Always 🙌🏼 my sister actually remembers sleeping like this when she was little

Avatar

My 2 year old still does this 🥹

Avatar

Mine does that I put him on his back walk in he’s on his stomach that’s his preferred position to sleep in I can’t force him 🤣. He always turns his head to the side and he hates things on his face even when he’s asleep no matter how deep he either cries or shuffles 😭 or moans

Avatar

Yes!

Avatar

I’ve read this too. sometimes I have the house at 74 (above that has me and hubby sweating) and thick pjs and she still sleeps like this lol!

Avatar

Oh yes

Avatar

That’s my favorite position my girl sleeps in. So cute! 🥹

Avatar

Baby might be feeling cold. They do this when they are cold.

Avatar

@Linda she definitely wasn't cold, I made sure to keep checking. She's been doing this since being able to pay on her side. Our bedroom is also above 26degrees due to the weather x

Avatar

Mines the same although won't sleep if I put him on his back anymore. So I put him on his side and he always rolls on his belly

Avatar

@Becky I put her on her back but as soon as I do she's straight onto her side, then her belly 🤣 x

Avatar

Sometimes bum up can indicate they're a little cold. Man they can sleep in some weird positions though 🤣.

Edit woops realised you have said you checked if cold haha

Avatar

Yes my daughter I put her on her back or her side but when I wake up she's on her stomach is that safe for her.?

Avatar

it's completely safe if they move themselves ❤️. Place them on their back to sleep but if they roll that is totally fine

Avatar

omg thank you so much 🙏 because alot of people have told me that they shouldn't sleep like that until they are one

Avatar

I would just recommend removing loose items from baby's sleep space to avoid the suffocation risk.

Avatar

Babies are incredible. I was informed that in this position, having the hips above the head increases blood flow to the brain helping baby sleep longer. Just how legs up the wall or inverted yoga moves helps us adults sleep better as well.

Avatar

It could also point towards some ENT problems. Does she sleep with her mouth open too or snore? (Nothing to worry about, it’s just one of the signs to look for with airway problems)

Avatar

@Nell she's always slept with her mouth open since she was born, is this something to look into then? Airway problems sounds like it's something I'd need to be concerned about x

Avatar

My boy loves to sleep like this. It's just comfortable.

So, I only know what I know from my son. I was told he had tongue tie at birth but they didn’t correct it. I since joined a few tongue tie groups on fb and breastfeeding pages on insta, where I’ve learnt that mouth breathing isn’t something we want to see our children do. After my research, he’s been in a waiting list of a TT correction. But I’m concerned about deviated septum too as that runs in our family.

I noticed lots of other things my son was doing that were red flags too, like dribbling milk (he had a wet chin after breastfeeding), sometimes ‘clicked’ when feeding, sleeps with his head pushed back (opening his throat wide), pain when I first breastfed etc. My list went on but I’ve forgotten a lot of it now.

I’d just start to do some research without worrying. As you learn, you’ll find out whether you think this is a red flag for something or not.

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
