Hi mamas,
I am a first time mom to a baby girl. She is 3 months old. She has been sleeping through the night pretty well for about 3-4 weeks now. I exclusively breastfeed. I’m wondering.. is this normal? Esp with her being breastfed? I have been reading up on SIDS a lot (because I’m paranoid) and I read that babies who wake through the night are at decreased risk, so that kinda scared me. I also know that a baby is at highest risk of SIDS between 2-4 months old. She sleeps on her back and I just started taking one arm out of the swaddle and she still sleeps through the night. I know I shouldn’t be complaining, but I worry about everything. 🙃Should I be worried about this?

My baby sleep through the night since the beginning

Your baby is probably waking through the night but settling herself back to sleep ☺️ I only know as mine is the same but she is sooooo loud when she settles herself she humms lol xx

Don’t forget that, whilst babies who wake often might be at decreased risk, the original risk level is very low anyway. Try not to read too much about SIDS if it makes you overly anxious. Keep the bedroom as cool as you can, keep putting baby to sleep on their back on a firm mattress, keep breastfeeding, don’t smoke, and you are decreasing the risk with every one of those actions. You could also consider use of a dummy and/or white noise as those are also believed to reduce the risk further 😊

My baby has slept through since 6 weeks and I have been feeling exactly the same as you, terrified of SIDS. I combat it by getting up to check on her throughout the night to relieve paranoia and reminding myself that by having my baby sleep in my room and not co-sleeping the risk is lowered significantly. Before you know it you will be out of the risk period and can enjoy a baby that is a good sleeper.

exactly the same, she sleeps through but do they have to move around as much and slam their legs to settle 🤣 xx

😂😂 so crazy isn’t it! I can’t even listen to it sometimes I go hide in the en suite for 5 mins till the humming stops lol

As above said, have a look at the actual risk overall, not just that it's increased or decreased. Saying that doing something doubles the risk sounds a lot worse than saying it goes from 1% to 2% risk, even though they mean the same thing (these aren't real risk numbers for SIDS, just an example). At the end of the day, you can only control so much and as long as you're following the safe sleep guidelines then be assured you're doing all you can. I felt the same way about leaving bub to nap in the bedroom instead of out in the living room with us but she just wouldn't nap. Our health nurse said that although they are guidelines you also have to do what's best for your family, and like I said if you're following all the guidelines you can then you're doing amazing ❤️
