I am 34 weeks and will be getting induced around 36 weeks due to the growth of my little boy. It’s my first pregnancy and I have no idea what to expect. Can anyone give any advise and reassurance as to what to expect?? I have gestational diabetes, and due to baby being small I can’t leave once they take me in as I will need to be monitored continually.
They said they will do a sweep first, but when I attended the hospital the other day, they was trying to do a sweep for the lady in the room next to me and was unable to perform due to the cervix being closed. What would they do first if they can give you a sweep?

Maybe do a bit of research around induction so you understand all of the methods that may be used and how they work. An induction can take up to five days, but may be quicker, it depends. You could also watch some positive induction stories on YouTube or listen to some on podcasts. If they can’t give you a sweep they may go straight to the pessary or gel, which goes on your cervix and contains prostaglandins, which ripen your cervix.

I would recommend you the Honest Midwife's class about instrumental labour :) It's £25 and she explains what induction is etc!

Hi when were you diagnosed with GT? Are you taking any medication? How come the baby is smaller? I was diagnosed with GT at 31 weeks and I was told the baby could be bigger? I’m 33 weeks now but I’ve been advised to change my diet whilst they monitor me. I was told they’ll start monitoring my baby with additional scans.

Hello adial. I was diagnosed at 27 weeks with GT. I Diet control mine , so have not needed any medication. They are not sure why baby is small, most likely due to insufficient placenta function. Babies can be bigger with GT, but not in all case.
They will monitor if baby is to small or to big x

thank you for sharing. I’m not on medication yet. I’m trying to diet control mines as well but I’ve had several spikes. Any tips/ diet you are following, would be much appreciated. Best of luck with everything. I wish you have an easy labour and healthy baby xx

I was induced withe my last 10 years ago, I was given two lots of propess, I think it was 48/72 hours apart (don’t quote me on that as hard to remember times frames) but they didn’t work for me, I had to wait to be taken to delivery suite, to be put on the drip that causes contractions and they broke my waters.
I’m being induced again at 37 weeks, as his small and reduced movements.
Not the quickest process so take lots of things to keep you occupied, I was in hospital a week before my son made an appearance. So this time I’m preparing my self! Good luck x
