I am currently in very early preganancy at 5+4 with my first. When coming off contraception to start trying for a family, the doctors told me that because I am heavier there was a low chance of successfully carrying to full term. I am so nervous and don’t feel I can enjoy or share my happiness, I have booked an early scan for reassurance and ease my nerves! Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I would recommend getting a different doctor! I was never told this or shamed about my weight and I weighed 240 at the beginning and 290 at my heaviest in pregnancy. (I was actively losing weight before I got pregnant but gained weight during pregnancy) I never had any complications and had a full term healthy delivery. ♥️ do you have underlying health problems they are worried about?

I'm plus size and older (41) and I managed to have a successful pregnancy. I did have a miscarriage in Feb 21 but that was due to other medical issues at the time. So don't worry, they will more likely keep a closer eye on you like they did with me. I have a happy healthy 8 month old now 😊

Also I would definitely book an early scan. I did and it was very reassuring. It seems like forever for the 12 week scan to come around.

No, but I would ask the doctors what exactly about my body makes it high risk and what you can do to fix it. Kids are invasive, and you will gain a lot more weight so just ask what you can do and they should be graceful about it

Please ignore that doctor and enjoy your pregnancy! I’m actually gobsmacked, why would they even say that 🤦🏼♀️ Every single pregnancy, plus size or not, is going to come with risks!
Before this pregnancy I had 2 miscarriages and after my second the doctor who scanned me even said there’s no reason at all for me not to have a healthy pregnancy (I was overweight at this point as well).
Im classed as ‘high risk’ purely because of my bmi but at 36 weeks tomorrow I’ve not had one single issue throughout my full pregnancy. There’s a lady on tiktok you may be interested in looking at called ‘the heavyweight midwife’.
Enjoy it because honestly it’ll be over before you know it 🫶🏻

Being plus size definitely increase your risks during pregnancy a little bit, but it does not make your pregnancy “risky” or doomed, just a very small increase in risk. Theheavyweightmidwife on insta is really good for a balanced perspective, really helped in my first pregnancy❤️❤️

I'm plus size and also had the same worry. I booked an early scan and it was really reassuring. My baby came a little early but I was never told this was down to weight. He is super happy and healthy and the birth went really well despite being classed as high risk xxx

So sorry you had to go through that experience. We have been trying for a baby for 3 years + and was constantly body shamed by my GP rather than him go and do any kind of testing. I am now 6 weeks with my first. Yes anxious about there being complications, but also just making sure to channel positive energy and thoughts to myself. I make sure I walk everyday and try to go up hills for cardio (I was doing this before getting pregnant). Remember this: yes there may be increased risks, but also plus sized women give birth every day all around the world☺️ I agree with asking what exactly makes you more at risk is just your weight or are there other underlying factors… other than that keep active, eat as healthy as possible and we are here for you💜🤗

Please ignore that doctor! I've had a very high bmi throughout my pregnancy and baby is very healthy! I am 30 weeks now x

Don’t listen to them, I had my first my booking weight was 112kg and let me tell you I had a smoother pregnancy than even people on a healthy bmi. I had a very smooth pregnancy no complications no gestational diabetes. My baby was full term I even asked to be induced! Delivery was amazing too I had my labour and delivery in less than 30mins. Let me add that my baby is healthy no issues at all. My consultant tried to make me feel bad for my weight and she would pass comments and just act weird I’m so glad she got removed. Don’t let anyone scare you xx

Plus size and my first pregnancy was soooooo good no complications apart from needing c-section but my boy was just to comfy and high up at 41+1 it also runs in the maternal family we’ve all needed csections so I wouldn’t put that down to my weight. Also never struggled to conceived thankfully this 2nd pregnancy is a shock!
I’ve never felt better than when I’m pregnant! Enjoy it!
